Low end phones expect to dominate sales by 2014
Everyone is always turning to the latest and greatest in mobile phones with their hi-tech features and full depth software. The endless amount of coverage on these devices may turn a profit for both carriers and manufacturers. However, a report from Juniper Research is forecasting a radical change in the amount of sales for low-budget mobile phones by 2014. Total worldwide sales are expected to topple over 700 million units; roughly a 22 percent increase from this year. Various scenarios have been implemented to provide an inexpensive handset to the roughly 3 billion people that do not own one. The research report goes on to say that many of these people actually live in areas where wireless coverage is offered, but carriers tend to not market their service because of fearing financial loses. The one way to tap into the “emerging markets” is to reduce the cost of handsets so low income users will be able to afford it. While many of us are eagerly awaiting for the next big phone, some out there in emerging markets are just waiting to make phone calls on a simple device.
