Keyboard shortcuts could return with the BlackBerry Classic
When BlackBerry turned QNX into BlackBerry 10, it did away with the keyboard short cuts that were near and dear to a BlackBerry fan's heart. These shortcuts enabled users to tap or double tap on a single key to get something to happen. Ar far back as May, a peak into the BlackBerry 10.3 SDK revealed that by using a long press on certain keys, you could save time with a short cut.
With the BlackBerry Classic bringing back old-school features like a track pad and function keys, the good news is that shortcuts are coming back to BlackBerry. But instead of the old fashioned double tap of the spacebar to bring up a period, it looks like users will be able to create their own shortcuts by using long presses. You will be able to create a shortcut to call up an app, write a new message, or call a frequently dialed number.

The new shortcuts might be first seen on the BlackBerry Classic and then make their way out to other models via BlackBerry 10.3.1. We've included some leaked shots of what appears to be the new shortcut system along with a list of shortcuts from the days when BlackBerry was BlackBerry.
