Innovation or copycat? Huawei unveiled a 5.5" Mate S with Force Touch before the iPhone 6s Plus

Huawei, the third-largest phone maker in the world, recently announced the Mate S - a unibody aluminum 5.5-incher with Force Touch display and a "coral pink" version. Apple took the wraps off an iPhone 6s Plus the other day, and, surprise, surprise, it is a sealed aluminum 5.5-incher, and the newest color scheme for it is rose gold.

Huawei even mocked the team from Cupertino that its Mate S creation is "from head to toes" rose gold, unlike the 6s Plus that is white in the front. The similarities don't end with this chassis color, though, as the Mate S comes in largely the same hues as Apple's creation - gold, rose gold, dark grey, and a silverish one. Of course, the Mate S has a much better screen-to-body ratio, though that's not hard to achieve against Apple's phablets, given the largish circular home key at the front.

Moreover, it sports a 5.5" panel with 1080p resolution, just like the iPhone 6s Plus, and has a 13 MP camera with RGBW sensor and OIS, against Apple's 12 MP camera with RGBW sensor and OIS. The icing on the cake, however, is that the Mate S was announced with a version that carries a pressure-sensitive Force Touch display, and Huawei even mentions the phrase "3D touch" in the technology's description on its website. Apple? Well, its new pressure-sensitive screen tech, as found in the iPhone 6s Plus, is called "3D Touch."

Huawei even priced the Mate S way above what most other Chinese makers price their flagships, bordering it on the iPhone 6s Plus tags, as in Europe both handsets will cost north of €800. Long story short, Huawei will have a 5.5-incher with aluminum unibody, a pressure-sensitive display, and in colors similar to the iPhone 6s Plus, about the time that Apple's phablet hits the shelves en masse everywhere.

This is why we wanted to ask you whether you think Huawei innovated by unveiling the Mate S about a week before the iPhone 6s Plus, or whether it is simply copying its way to the top, overhearing what new tech and new colors will come with Apple's second-gen phablet. Take your pick, and sound off in the comments.

Absolutely !!!! OMG what a doctored poll. LOL Giving the two questions like this , doesn't give options that this Force Touch BS has nothing to do with INNOVATION. 1)If you choose to vote against "Innovation" , you are obliged to vote that Huawai copy Apple. 2)If you want to say with your vote, that Huawai DITN'T COPY Apple , you must vote that this Force Touch is an INNOVATION. In both cases Apple win. Genius!

To sum it up, forced touch or 3D touch adds a new dimension to the touch screen. It just adds to existing touch interface, which users still need the touch interface because its still the primary input method. Also developers still have to code for the older iPhones or Androids that don't have force or 3D touch. So in all honesty, this new add-on to the touchscreen is still more of a gimmick, and it will be this way for quite some time.

Well i think that the Huawei one looks a lot better and also none are innovation and both are copycat why: None of them invent anything like at all not the force touch not the gold rose color not anything they was all exist before. It's only PA that sides Apple and want to say that it have innovation even fingerprint scanner wasn't their invitation.

The point here is, the media to make this 3 dimensional BS popular. Attacing us with article after article. No matter positive or not so. Brainwashing the ppl. As they always did with all Apple's magic . Then the same menial media will say with hypocrisy: Wow Apple make every "new trend" . Remember how few years the media didn't mention the one-hand operation on Note?? But when iPhone 6Plus came , the "reachability" joke , was first to mention. Same now with , the Apple Pencil. Most of the media don't even mention Samsung(where Apple copy Note Pro12.2") but always compare iPad Pro with Surface.(omg , or tech media are just ignorant to compare real PC with large iOS phone?) No. They just want to ignore Samsung and the greatest S-Pen. Because Samsung are not US company.

That's why they got rid of lots of Android , fandroids. Look at Apple articles now, its only 2 or 3 hating on it, last year and 2-3 years ago, every Apple blogs use to get bashed and hated. There were 20- 30 Android users commenting on Apple related articles. Look at it now. Apple is paying PhoneArena back hand.

Yeah, without Steve, Apple became a copycat now, see this release, Microsoft Surface Pro, Samsung Pen, Mi 's pink, Huawei's Force Touch, Sony's game console, 2G memory, what's new?

Except the Surface doesn't run a useless OS. It runs full Windows on any Surface Pro, or the Surface 3.

Totally agree. Biased and useless poll. Lol How could Huawei copy Apple when iPhone 6s wasn't even announced yet??? Are they saying you could copy someone when you JUST HEARD what someone's planning to do not from that person himself but from 3rd party??? That logic LMAO

Pressure sensitive touchscreen have been around for a long time, Yes just like Touch screens being around a lot time before the iPhone. The problem is, its been around a lot time and android does currently supports it and Phones like LG has it already built it...the problem is the lack of vision when it comes to what force touch could be used for, Android has done nothing with it and everytime they did it was implemented horribly and quietly removed. It reminds me of touchscreens before 2007 when everyone was trying to get touchscreen phones to work and the implemented of them were horribly. Apple seems to have found a way of implementing Pressure sensitive touchscreen in a way that could be very much useful. (You now have normal press, long press (which is already being used) and now a new third user input).

I guess you are right. Apple really copied Huawei's implementation. Or may be Huawei copied Mr. Crook's dream before they announced iPhone 6s..

I would suggest PA to make a poll between Pencil and S-Pen..... it will attract far more clicks than this poll.

The semblance between the apple pencil and the s pen is nothing, the Apple pencil looks more like the Microsoft pen for the surface, which is what it's meant for.

It doesn't matter to PA members. They just need a reason to fight.
