I used Huawei’s Watch D3 and it’s the wearable I’d recommend to anyone with blood pressure problems

If you need to track your blood pressure 24/7, the Huawei Watch D3 may be a great choice.

The Huawei Watch D3 is the type of tech product that reminds me why technological innovation is so important and so great. To me, this is what true innovation looks like – the interplay of brilliant engineering and tasteful design that results in products that meaningfully improve people’s lives.

Most of us who’re still young(-ish) rarely think about blood pressure, but we all know that with age, it becomes a major factor for our overall well-being.

High blood pressure is an extremely common condition in the modern world that, when left unchecked, can lead to all sorts of life-altering and life-threatening situations.

That is why people suffering from blood pressure-related problems are often advised to not only take their medicine on time, but also to regularly measure and monitor their blood pressure. And then there are people who could greatly benefit from 24/7 BP monitoring in order to catch any abnormalities on time.

The latter scenario, in particular, can be difficult and inconvenient, but this is precisely where Huawei’s Watch D line comes in. Now entering its third generation with the Huawei Watch D3, this smartwatch by Huawei is unique in that it lets you benefit from medically certified 24/7 blood pressure monitoring without having to interrupt your day or wear strange or bulky contraptions on your body.

If you’re not familiar with this product – the key feature of the Watch D line is an ultra-thin inflatable cuff on the inside of the watch band, which, just like a real blood pressure monitor, inflates, creates pressure, and helps the sensors on the watch accurately measure your actual blood pressure.

The major difference between the Watch D3 and all other smartwatches is that it’s certified as a real blood pressure monitor, while others can only notify you of changes in your blood pressure trend.

Now, the Huawei Watch D3 adds a great new feature: pre-workout and post-workout blood pressure measuring, to ensure that you catch any abnormalities in your BP response related to intense physical activity.

It feels just like a regular smartwatch on your wrist

I love that Huawei has also improved the design across the board, making the Watch D3 look even more like a mainstream smartwatch.

The D2 was already great in that respect, but the Watch D3 has become even slimmer, at just 11.3mm (down from 13.3mm), and lighter, at 36 grams (down from 44 grams).

The inflatable cuff band has also become lighter, leading to an overall more compact, lighter and convenient watch.

When wearing the Watch D3, I don’t feel any different compared to when I’m wearing a standard smartwatch. It’s very light and comfortable. The inflatable cuff on the inside of the band does not create any weird sensations – it feels like a normal watch band.

These changes have not led to any compromises. On the contrary: screen size has been increased from 1.82” to 1.92”, and peak brightness is now rated at 3000 nits (up from 1500 nits). The screen looks great and is spacious enough, while performance feels really fast.

Rotating the digital crown on the side, which allows you to scroll through menus, just like on an Apple Watch, feels awesome – it has just the right level of resistance to feel smooth and effortless.

In essence: the components that you want to get smaller have gotten smaller, and those that you want bigger have gotten bigger. What is not to like here?

Huawei says this is the proudest it’s ever been with any of its wearables, and I can understand why.

The Watch D3 is incredibly impressive from an engineering and design standpoint, and a very real lifestyle enhancer for many people around the world.

At the end of the day, this is what technology is about, isn’t it? We need products like the Huawei Watch D3 to remind us that tech is not just about doomscrolling on Instagram or TikTok, but also about helping us live better, richer and healthier lives.

The Huawei Watch D3 will be available in the UK from September 23, starting at £399.99. It can be purchased from Huawei’s online store, Amazon or other retailers.
