Huawei Honor Tablet is official; 8 inch slab makes and takes phone calls
The Huawei Honor Tablet has been introduced today, and this 8 inch slate is closer to being a large smartphone than most other tablets. The Honor Tablet will make and take phone calls, and send out SMS posts. Pre-orders start in Malaysia on September 29th for the slate, which is priced at the equivalent of  $183.77. The device is expected to launch on October 16th.

The 8 inch IPS display offers a resolution of 1280 x 800. Under the hood is a quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 CPU, and inside you'll find 1GB of RAM and 16GB of native storage. A 5MP snapper is on back with a .3MP camera in front. The 4800mAh battery keeps the lights on, and the tablet carries 3G HSPA+ connectivity, supporting speeds up to 42Mbps. The tablet, which is rather svelte at 7.9mm, comes with Android 4.3 out of the box, with Huawei's Emotion UI 1.6 running on top.

The tablet is debuting in Malaysia, and every 50th pre-order made through the site gives the buyer an entry in a contest. The grand prize is a free Honor Tablet.

Thanks for the tip!

PhoneTab is phablet, because phone comes first, but this is a tablet first with the function of a phone, so the the word tablet would make more sense coming first...

Most of the tablets that has phone functions are of the 7" formfactor. This is hugely awkward.

I've had a Blu Life View Tab for a few months that is a phone attached to an 8" tablet. Unlike many in this category, it has an actual earpiece to hold up to your ear.

Let's hope it's using Cortex-A7 processors, rather than Cortex-A5. I used to own a tablet with the same resolution and Cortex-A5 processors (don't ask how), let's just say it lags like crazy, no matter how conservative you are in terms of using the device
