Rumor: HTC U11 Plus coming soon, near-bezel-less screen included

While announcing its $1.1 billion deal with Google today (under which certain HTC employees are joining the Mountain View giant), HTC also confirmed that it's working on its "next flagship phone." The company didn't provide any details on this handset, but we may have some information on it anyway.

According to French website Frandroid (usually a reliable source), HTC plans to announce a high-end smartphone in November. Reportedly, the device is called U11 Plus, and will become HTC's first handset to sport a near-bezel-less screen - a 5.99-inch display with 1440 x 2880 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio. This means that the U11 Plus could be about the same size as LG's V30, which has a similar screen.

Apart from offering a large near-bezel-less display, the HTC U11 Plus may not be too different from the already available HTC U11 (pictured above). It's said that the new handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, with 4 GB / 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB / 128 GB of storage space. The U11 Plus should be dust- and water-resistant (IP68), further offering a 12 MP rear camera, an 8 MP front-facing camera, and HTC's Edge Sense feature.

Frandroid has it that the HTC U11 Plus will be officially unveiled on November 11, possibly alongside a lower-end HTC U11 Life. Both new handsets should be released in China first, but they'll likely be available globally at some point.

We're obviously curious to see what HTC's first near-bezel-less smartphone looks like. What about you?

Make a sapphire version if this and price it at 1100-1200, give it 128GB storage. I would happily buy this instead of the iPhone X

In November! This means December availability globally , and if by that the 845 is announced, many would rather wait and buy a handset running the latest soc, than the year old one.

The HTC U11 was a great turnaround for HTC, much like the 10 before it. Get those trim bezels, I want to be able to smear pizza sauce on the display all the time easier.

For whatever reason, I thought the 128GB HTC U11 on HTC's website was the HTC U11 Plus.

I replaced my htc 10 with the htc U11 .. Seriously there is a huge difference in everything: : 1. Screen brightness in the U11 is much better. 2. Much much faster and smooth performance. 3. Great battery life compared to the htc 10 although the battery is the same (i.e. 3,000 mAh) 4. Camera is the best ever that i have seen .. Htc 10's camera can not be compared with the one on the U11.. 5. Does not get hot in any case unlike htc 10.. 6. Sound Quality is amazing .. Clear and so loud!!

Well, at least they realized that the U11 was dead on arrival and needed a quick replacement. You can't sell a flagship with huge bezels. Even the iPhone 8 demand is very low.

The iPhone 8 demand is low because there is no major upgrade compared to the 7/7 Plus .. Most of iPhone fans will wait for the iPhone X because they are looking for sometg Hing new and different .. Who told you that the htc U11 is dead on arrival??? I have one and bezels do not bother me.. If you prefer bezeless phones .. It doesnt mean that everyone should listen to you and follow your advise !

Posts: 2021; Member since: Mar 02, 2017 seems that HTC thinks different than you do, rushing a bezel-less phone in November 2017 rather than March-April 2018.

If S8 had same design of S7 edge , sales would be great too. Iphone 8 will sell well too, even with same look of i6. If Htc drops the 16MP front cam for tiny bezel, it will sell even less than u11. They no longer provide the great front speakers. I still wonder why the Bezel Patrol never complains about Huawei, OnePlus, Xiaomi or Motorola. P10+, OP5 and Z2 Force have same size of XZP, U11 and i8+. P10, Mi6 same size of XZ1, X4 is 2mm taller. Always Sony, Htc or Apple.

Huawei just released their bezel-less Mate 10 Lite, Xiaomi just released the Mi Mix 2, OnePlus and Motorola just don't matter...

Lumberjack, I've been complaining about the bloated bezels for a decade now. For some hellish reason, the tech industry held on to the stupid giant bezels for waaay too long. Once the dam broke, everyone has to embrace or get run out of the party. Now using bezels for something worthwhile like dual front facing speakers is another story. But for most every device outside HTC the bezels were just an utter drag on form and function. The "cat's outta the bag". Nobody will ever go back now.

Well, way to go you bunch of morons. We've been begging and pleading with you en masse for years to dump the stupid bezels and streamline your phones. You totally ignored it. Then several of your competitors finally embrace the obvious, your new flagship gets totally smacked down because it looks like a dinosaur. Then shazaaaaaam, you get a revelation to trim off the bezels. Unbelievable!
