Google will continue to sell the Nexus 5 through the first quarter of 2015
Google has decided to keep offering the Nexus 5 through the first quarter of 2015, even though the new Nexus 6 phablet has been available for some time. While earlier reports suggested that Google would stop producing the older handset and let inventories simply disappear ("Once they're gone, they're gone," a Google spokesman reportedly said), a new report says that Google will continue to make sure that the 5-inch stock Android handset will remain available from now through at least March 2015.

Google has removed the red and white versions of the Nexus 5 from the Google Play Store, leaving only the black variant in both 16GB and 32GB models. Both of those versions are in stock, and leave the warehouse in one to two business days after being ordered.

The large price difference between the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6, and the difference in screen size, means that both models do not compete against each other. That means that Google is in no rush to stop selling the older handset. The 5-inch Nexus 5 is priced at $349 (16GB) and $399 (32GB) while the 6-inch Nexus 6 is priced at $649 (32 GB) and $699 (64 GB).

What would be a greater move is a refresh of their 5 inch segment.
