Google Cardboard now out of stock at OnePlus
So you figured that you would wait until the last second to request the free Google Cardboard VR headset from OnePlus. The manufacturer is going to unveil the sequel to its popular OnePlus One on July 27th at 10pm (EDT) using VR technology, and was sending out Google Cardboard free to those who asked for it. All OnePlus required was $5 for postage and handling, a fair request considering the price of shipping these days.

If you figured that you still had time to ask for the VR headset to be sent to you, we are sorry to say that you miscalculated. According to the OnePlus website, the company has run out of Google Cardboard and will start shipping them out on July 10th. OnePlus is losing money on every Google Cardboard it ships, and hopes that the promotion pays off with orders for the OnePlus 2.

Speaking of the device, the OnePlus 2 could launch with two different versions. Based on a pair of GFXBench benchmark tests, one model will carry 3GB of RAM while a more premium model could come with 4GB of the sweet stuff. Both versions are expected to feature a screen in the range of 5.5-inches to 5.7-inches, and will be powered by the beleaguered Snapdragon 810 SoC. The chipset contains an octa-core CPU and the Adreno 430 GPU.

As far as the Google Cardboard VR headset is concerned, if we hear that OnePlus has decided to re-stock its shelves, we'll let you know. Just remember that it's the early bird that gets the worm free VR headset.
