Essential Phone is getting second Android Oreo beta, here is what's new

Essential continues to bring improvements to its smartphone, which came later than expected to the market. Although it wasn't exactly love at first sight, the Essential Phone gained a dedicated community that's asking for improvements and new features.

Today, the US-based company announced a second Android Oreo beta build is available for Essential Phone units. If you want to install a beta software on your smartphone, then here are some of the most important new features and enhancements you'll be getting.

First off, Essential announced the update brings smart text selection ability, along with picture-in-picture. Also, many bug fixes have been implemented, as well as some under the hood performance enhancements.

According to Essential, the update is pushed out OTA (over the air) to all Essential Phone users who previously installed Android Oreo beta build 1. If you haven't done that yet, you'll have to follow a set of instructions that will allow you to update to Android Oreo beta. You can find more details at the source link below.

Essential promised an Android Oreo update will be released in the coming weeks but hasn't yet offered an ETA. With the second beta out, we believe the company is getting closer to a final version release.

At first, my single gripe was the 'cyclops' eye. And now, I've another gripe... This phone doesn't support Project Treble as it doesn't possess a separate partition for 'vendor code' (I think that's what it's called!). Same goes to OnePlus 5T, so beware! I was in awe when I saw The Mate 9 running on an almost unmodified AOSP ROM without any hiccups and stutters and all hardware working as it's supposed to! INSANITY for geeks! This is indeed a revolutionary step in Android custom romming! Heck, it's... EVOLUTIONARY! I didn't realize what Project Treble 'The Terrible' is capable of until now! In any case, avoid any Non-Treble compatible smartphones from this point onward. Same goes to Snapdragon 835. Now it's best to go for The Snapdragon 845 (Which support DynamIQ ARM v8.1) equipped smartphone with Treble Support! Welcome to 2018! G'Day!

What are you talking about? They said Essential said Treble will be fully supported when 8.1 is released for this phone.

Great support for the phone and for those that have one. Good to see.
