Face Cash is a payment option available as a free app from the Apple App Store, Android Market and BlackBerry App World.. Similar to PayPal, money is transferred in and out of a secured account. Instead of signing for your purchase, your phone is placed under a special reader with a screen that shows your picture and confirms your identity. The firm's web site says that the app is like having a digital wallet on your phone. Of course, you can only use the app with merchants that accept the service.
In a press release issued today, Face Cash announced that it has worked out a deal with the nation's largest fast food franchise, that will allow you to use the app to pay for meals at Subway. The one thing that could prevent Face Cash from becoming a global institution like PayPal is the cost to the merchant of having to pay for the reader. On the other hand, using the app costs the merchant about half as much as regular credit cards and adds another level of security.
