Code inside iOS 7.1 points to Touch ID for one or more of Apple's next-gen iPads
A bit of code from the biometric kit for iOS 7.1, suggests that the fingerprint scanning Touch ID feature will be seen in at least one upcoming new iPad model. More precisely, that would be either the Apple iPad Air 2 or the next Apple iPad mini with Retina display. Currently, Touch ID can be found only on the Apple iPhone 5s.

Code in iOS 7.1 hints at Touch ID for at least one of Apple's slates

In the code, there is a reference to the Apple iPhone and Apple iPod Touch ("1") and Apple iPad tablets ("2"). So the code indicates that the Apple iPhone 6 will have Touch ID (as expected) and at least one of the slates will offer it as well. Earlier this month, Apple-connected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI said that both new iPad tablets coming out of Apple this year, the 9.7 inch iPad Air 2, and the 7.9 inch iPad mini with Retin Display 2, will include Touch ID.

According to Kuo, the Apple iPad Air 2 will be released during the third quarter, a little earlier than usual this year. The analyst didn't mention an expected launch date for the second iPad mini with Retina display.

Thanks for the tip!

Samsung's copiers are ready. Samsung's engineers are waiting for the iPads release before they implement it on their Galaxy Tabs/Notes. edit: Mandatory link for RORYREVOLUTION:http://youtu.be/IAISUDbjXj0

Yeah. I am sure Samsung can't wait to add one more row of icons. Also, they're getting pretty good at copying Apple since they anticipated how in future Apple would increase its screen size and add notification centre, so they copied those features even before Apple could introduce them and returned it back to them.

Please stay on topic broski. We're talking about the touchID/fingerprint scanner here. Not how you were bullied by some dude wearing a shirt with an Apple logo.

lel....I am off-topic ?! Was I the one who started flame wars by dragging Samsung into an article which has nothing to do with them at all ? Wow...

Ninetysix is right. It's always hard for Apple haters to stay on topic. All they do is follow each other in large crowds like that certain animal does, shouting out things that are irrelevant to the topic. PS: My OG

EDIT: PS: I had NC on my iPhone / iPod OS 1.1.1 before any Samsung smartphone did LOL! ***

Motorola Atrix had a fingerprint scanner two years before Apple engineers implemented it on their iPhone 5s. ;)

This would be awesome. My entire ecosystem on my 5s revolves around my Touch ID. -File / text encryption & decryption -Deleting apps, downloading apps, opening apps -Deleting/moving specific files in my file manager -Access to certain settings in the Settings pane -Unlocking my phone of course -Sending texts to certain contacts (drunk texting the boss is never a good thing) -Unlocking my Macbook using my Touch ID on my iPhone. - & more Hope they add it to the iPad for these reasons.

"-Sending texts to certain contacts (drunk texting the boss is never a good thing)" Because your fingerprint works differently when you're drunk? :)

My fingerprint sensor in the SMS app / phone app is disabled when "Drunk Mode" is enabled.
