The updated iPad Pro lineup

Repairing a smartphone or tablet has never been cheap and likely never will be, but there’s no denying Apple charges some of the highest fees in the industry.

When it comes to iPhones, Apple commands $329 for an iPhone XS Max screen replacement, while any other out-of-warranty damage will set consumers back a whopping $599. This figure matches the cost of repairs for the first and second gen 12.9-inch iPad Pro. But today, following the announcement of the third-generation tablet, Apple has once again increased its prices.

Moving forward, owners of the new 11-inch or 12.9-inch iPad Pro models will have to pay $499 and $649 respectively to repair the tablets, which equates to an extra $50 over the previous service fee. Moreover, battery repairs will continue to cost $99, while second-generation Apple Pencil battery replacements cost $29, just like the original stylus.

The increase in repair costs for the tablets likely has something to do with the new all-screen design that is present. However, as usual, Apple offers its customers the chance to acquire AppleCare+ protection for $129. This lasts for two years and reduces repair costs to just $49.

Yet one doesnt even cost that much to make. There isnt a single ORMs from anybtech company, with exception of Apple; who charges more to basically replace your product, for more than what it actually cost to make. That is a total shame! Dont break your limited tablet. My Surfa e cost $999, and to get the glass replaced is about $280 3rd party. Microsoft wants $450 and they dont repair. They just send you a refurb, just like Apple does in most cases. Even $450 is expansive. Sorry Microsoft's. You and Apple are crazy to charge that kind of money to replace a part that cost you $30. Sorry you both need to be taught a lesson.

I bet Louis Rossmann's friend, Jessa, can do the repairs for less than that... Assuming Apple doesn't get customs to confiscate any parts.

Yikes. This is why cases and protection plans are great even if you’re careful

I was hoping Apple would stick to the $799 price point for the 12.9. However, I might swing it since I have a 10.5 Pro that I can sale.

Lesson to be learned here? Purchase Apple Care & don't worry about it.

Even with AppleCare, it will cost you more than mostv3rd party repairs. Even Apple Authorized repair ones especially. If you break the outer glass on and iPad and dont break the display, you can replace the glass for $180 out of pocket with no insurance whatsoever. It's just the glass and you can get an original OEM part. For $649 you can just about buy another. This is unheard of in any other repair product industry. Try this: On Xfinity Mobile, they give you a refurb for $100 if you only break the glass or damage the phone. It costs you about $120 per year and you can have up to 3 breaks. Is lost or stolen they will replace the phone for $200. You get a factory refurb and a full year warranty on it. The Note 8 I replaced was a $930 phone. I replaced it with basically a brand new phone for less money than it cost to make. Apple charges more for AppleCare and it wont cost you $200 to replace your iPhone or iPad. This is why Apple has insane profits. The total cost of this iPad to make was probably less than $400. The best thing you can do, is pay for it with your credit card, and you can get it replaced once if you opt for the credit card insurance on ourchases. AMEX allows claims in some cases past the original warranty period. Even Samsung doesn't charge this much and they are also expensive. 2 years ago I bought a Samsung Curved TV from Best Buy. I cracked the screen trying to unload it from the car. I called Samsung to get a repair price. Since the model was 6 months old, they offered to replace it with the newest upgraded model and I only had to come out of pocket for $600. My TV was $1800 and the newer one was $2499. And 65" vs 60". So they basically gave me full value and I paid the difference. All for being a platinum member from my purchases. I had no insurance on it, not even from Best Buy. Why? Because I have bought many products and as a customer the OEM did something Apple would never do

Insane. Not picking it up in any way now. I was pretty excited for it, but knowing the pricing of repairs, lack of headphone jack *???? ON A TABLET OF ALL THINGS ???* and the costlier Apple Pencil, it's a hard pass for me.

The reason is business (Apple Care) imagine if all iPhone, iPad & all Apple customers will avail of the apple care yet only 1% of them experienced to have their gadgets repaired. Assuming Apple has 200 millions users who avail of it, that would be $25.8 billion with only minimal cost. A brilliant idea.
