Apple Stores putting up new backlit displays for the Apple Watch
We've already told you how Apple plans on using a jewelry-style glass display case to sell its pricier Apple Watch models. And we also mentioned how Apple has put a safe in each store that houses the more expensive watches overnight. These safes also come with MagSafe chargers so that each watch can be charged up overnight, ready to be sampled the next day by prospective customers.

Now comes word that Apple has started installing new backlit display panels for the Apple Watch in its stores, just a little over 5 weeks away from the release of the highly anticipated smartwatch. The timepiece will be officially launched on April 24th with pre-orders starting on April 10th. The Apple Watch Sport is an entry-level model priced at $349. The high-end Apple Watch Edition, which is made with 18 karat gold, starts at $10,000.

Expensive? Well, it's positioned as a fashion gadget (whether it's your taste or not) and you should look at how much those jewelry watches cost. Yes, it's almost redundant and arguably useless, but it's for people who have extra bucks to spend, and for $350, it's dirty cheap to them (even the 10k+ ones). You'd be surprised to see how some 1% people spend hundreds of thousands on dozens of handbags, yes, dozens, just to keep them in a specially made storage, and this is a real story too. Just like the stores you walk past on 5th ave, manhattan, if you have to ask how much each item costs when you walk in, you dont belong there. Apple watch targets those customers.

Wow, didn't know they could make it look uglier....but they have. What is with their side profile fixation? The watch looks the worst from the side why would they only show that.

Let's face it here, you think it's ugly just because of the name....who are you trying to fool?

Exactly! It's also funny that these trolls says Apple fans will buy it because of the Apple logo on it. Well, there is no Apple logo on it lol!

It's on the back so your comment is invalid. Try again next time.

and do you think that thing would sell if it didn't have Apple name in front of it ? The squarish profile of watch is unappealing. That OS is cumbersome and the placing of that 'crown' wheel makes it difficult to operate while wearing the watch on right hand.

Then wear on the left one. Remember it has full touch capability though.

I think it's ugly because it's ugly. I never thought any Apple products since the iPhone 4 were ugly (in fact I thought the iPhone 4-5s were some of the best looking phones around. But this year...

I hate smartwatch. maybe the Casio G-Shock Analog Smartwatches with Bluetooth and GPS is good

Funny. Keep hearing Apple-haters throw around the word "ugly", still haven't heard a single one have anything more detailed to say why that is. Sounds like the usual cart-before-the-horse BS.

Man I can care less about that ugly stuff, I'm gonna enjoy my purchase, and give a detailed review. Wearable tech, is the new frontier, and I plan to have fun with it. AppleWatch looks great to me, I think the Gear S looks a little better, but too big and clunky looking at the same time. Ugly/beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and AppleWatch will be on the wrist of millions of beholders.

I just can't wait to get inside the store, and get it on my wrist. I gotta try myself a smartwatch. Very intrigued by them in general. Sport with a white band, come to papa!

I'm looking @ the sport with black band, sport looks like the only decent option for me. they just priced the stainless steel band version way too high , I would have got one for upto 549$ , too bad 1000$ is just insane , even for a Apple product.

Agreed, Apple needs to price em lower, but I can swing $430 after tax. That's the price it'll be in Vegas.

Just get the stainless with the rubber band. It's $549. You can grab a third party band later.

I tried to edit my last comment. I was going to say, buy the stainless for $549 and buy a third party stainless steel band later. That's what I'm going to do. With that said, the aluminum will be the best seller. They are going for the lower end luxury watch market with the stainless like Lower end Movado's. They should sell well, but not as much as the aluminum.
