Apple Maps is down; if you need directions, use Google Maps for now (UPDATE)
If you're trying to get from point "A" to point "B" today and need directions, Apple Maps is not the way to go at this moment because the app is down. According to downdetector.com, 60% of those complaining say that Apple Maps is not providing them with any data, and 39% say that they can't open up the app. The issue is affecting all devices that support Apple Maps including the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

UPDATE: Apple has resolved the issue. Apple Maps is currently up and running.

Those trying to get directions using Apple Maps are receiving a message that reads, "Directions Not Available. Route information is not available at this moment." Luckily, we have a workaround. Install Google Maps on your iOS device (you'll find it on the App Store shelves next to the animal crackers).

Apple's System Status does show that there are issues with Maps-Routing and Navigation, and Maps-Search. Once Apple Maps is back up and running, we will update this story, so check in often.

Not a big deal if you have other map options.

Right. Just use another till the issue is resolved. Like having a spare tire.

My wife just used Apple maps to get us to the tint store, worked perfectly fine. Without Google app, the iPhone is still an iPhone. One of the best phones available.

Simple issue, all fixed and over with. You Apple haters couldn’t wait to attack. Apple Maps may have launched horribly (it did), but its grown and works just fine now, and has for a while. Remember this article, when Google maps has an issue. It had its growing pains too after all.

Fine is not good enough for navigation software, not when there are tons of navigation software that is great or even awesome.

Not even surprised. Another day another Apple software issue. I use Sygic or Google Maps on my devices.

Even if Gmap sends your location somewhere, does it affect you. What will someone do with my location. Almost everyone knows my location. Gmap is the best.

Apple Maps is just plain crap, don't use it because you might not reach your destination! Here Maps is still the best!

You kids wouldn't know what to do if you were forced to use paper maps. That's right, the most accurate form of cartography. Hell, I doubt you could even fold a paper map much less read it.

I'm no kid (I wish I could go back a couple of decades) and I can use a paper map. But, it's not as easy or convenient, and it's also not more accurate. It doesn't update new roads, or closed roads. With a paper map, ideally you need a second person to read it while you're driving.

I only use Apple maps. In fact, I don't even have google maps on my iPhone and iPad. It's just waste of memory space.

Google Maps sell my private data without my consent and share my location data with third parties thus put me in danger every single day.

If you are not a bad guy, don't be scared. If everyone knows your location, does it mean you are in danger. Then leave this planet because a lot of people know your location.

They don't sell any private data at all. #geteducated
