Android still the top OS dog, has double the share of iOS
The summer has passed, fall is officially here and it’s time to recap the state of mobile operating systems. As of August, Android continues its domination on the US smartphone market accounting for 54% of the impressions on Millenial’s ad network.

The green robot actually slipped from 61% in July, but still has nearly double the share of iOS, the closest runner-up with 28%, up from 21% last the month before that. An overwhelming 72% of all impressions come from smartphones.

You might wonder why such a huge difference between July and August’s results, as there were hardly any huge device launches during those two months, but the reason is elsewhere.

Only in August, Millenial has started counting both smartphones and tablets, and understandably Apple’s iPad gave Cupertino a push as it dominates the market. RIM’s BlackBerry ended up third with 13% of all impressions.

When it comes to phone makers, the Apple continued its dominance having a 23.2% share, but what’s interesting is that HTC popped up second with 16.3%, confirming that the Taiwanese phone maker is really getting traction lately. Samsung ended up third capturing a 14.6% share.

The iPhone remained the most popular handset, followed by the LG Optimus and Motorola Droid.
