Alcatel kicks off Idol 3 pre-sale campaign, handset now available for pre-order at $200 unlocked

Alcatel's first global flagship, the Idol 3, is now available to pre-order in the US at the promotional price of $199.99 unlocked as part of a pre-sale campaign. When Alcatel announced the launch of Idol 3 pre-orders in the country a couple of weeks ago, the manufacturer said that pre-orders will debut on April 21 at a price of $249.99, while also mentioning that the MSRP is one of $279.99. The pre-sale campaign expires on April 21st, or when stocks run out, whichever comes first.

With specs such as a 5.5-inch IPS LCD running at a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels (Full HD), a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of integrated storage space, and a microSD slot that accepts cards of up to 128GB in size, the Alcatel Idol 3 seems to be a well rounded mid-ranger. Other specs include a 13MP primary camera, an 8MP secondary shooter on the front, and a pair of front-facing stereo speakers from JBL. On the software side, the Alcatel Idol 3 runs Android 5.0.2 out of the box. For more details on the handset, make sure to read our Alcatel Idol 3 hands-on.

The Alcatel Idol 3 pre-order price of $249.99 was already attractive for an unlocked handset, but at $199.99, Alcatel's first major effort on US soil seems to be very promising. In the US, the smartphone is compatible with GSM networks operated by T-Mobile and AT&T.

So.. What exactly makes this a "mid-ranger"??? The lack of an apple icon in the back?

Ok I understand the logic here, Well I guess If you "DONT" look at the fact it has a full hd 1080p, dual jbl speakers, octa-core processor, 3100mAh battery, 13 megapixel back camera, 8 megapixel !FRONT! camera, and the fact that you could expand upto 144GB, I guess you could call it a mid ranger

I think it's considered a mid range phone because it doesn't have qualcomm's top chip set. The 615 might not be as powerful as the 810 and it might also have an inferior GPU?

I've been following this one for a while, too. It seems so great with no corner cut. The only reason I'm not ordering one right now is because the Note 3 sitting next to me is still working great and smoothly. I wanted to wait for the Note 3 to die, be sold, or be given away before I order this one, lol, but still, at $200 it's just so tempting.

I got the idol x+ for my wife here. Quad core , 1080p screen. 13 mpix cam ( thats take better looking picture than the S4 ) great battery life . very snappy and fluid experience and good build quality. Add to this thats they cover for 2 years under warranty. She as it for nearly a year now no issue at all! And the pricing ;) So yeah the more we see phone like those the more we ask ourself why others oem sell the same hardware for twice the price and... more bug and problems lol...

Not really the same hardware if you ask me, but still, I see the point there. If I were to order or preorder a big phone today and I didn't have the Note 3 laying around, I would totally preorder this Idol 3. For the price, it's hard to beat. The only thing that comes close now is the LG G2 which is available on Ebay for $230 ($180 a few days ago). Anyway, I have no issues with this Note 3 either after a year and a half except for the small dents from drops.

WHY 5.5"? why are none of these cheap awesome phones coming in at 5" instead of 5.5"? that .5 is a lot man.

The Idol 3 comes in a 4.7" as well .. and the specs drop as well. The 4.7" is not in this pre-sale offer.

I have still the original Idol X here. I can only recommend this new one from my own experience. Phone is very reliable, smooth, decent battery duration, great overal quality and very bright display already back in the time. If you like 5.5" phones and are tight on budget, you got a real bargain here.
