Verizon may have shouted "first" on the 5G switch, but AT&T has a 5G announcement of its own to make today. It just unveiled what it says is the first commercially available 5G device.

It is a Netgear Nighthawk 5G Mobile Hotspot, and we are getting giddy just thinking of the speeds that this little guy will deliver in areas where AT&T's 5G network goes live in a few weeks from now. The "world’s first millimeter wave mobile 5G browsing session" was just conducted over AT&T’s millimeter-wave 5G network in Waco, Texas, using that same Netgear mobile router.

The hotspot is, needless to say, the first retail device that is announced with Qualcomm's latest X50 5G modem that will be in many a cell phone next year, adding to its street cred, but mum's the word on its pricing just yet.
