This major Samsung Gear S2 update allows users to pick their own photos as watch face backgrounds
The Samsung Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic are receiving a major software update that notably the Tizen OS that the two wearables are based on.
The coolest new feature that the major Samsung Gear S2 software update brings allows users to download apps from the wearable itself. Previously, Gear S2 owners had to download apps on their watch by from the connected smartphone.
After installing the new update for the Gear S2, users will also be able to use their own photos as the watch face background. You can select up to 10 photos to be cycled and the setup can be done right from the wearable itself. Given that the watch face is the most common UI view, this customizability will certainly be welcomed by users.
Other notable features included in the update include a beefed up S Voice version, a new contacts app with its own widget, as well as automatic sleep tracking.
Launched a full year ago, the Samsung Gear S2 is still one of the hottest smartwatches that money can currently buy. Unfortunately for Samsung and the smartwatch market, that doesn't say very much. On the upside, Samsung is constantly updating it's Tizen OS to include new features. Back in February, the Gear S2 and S2 Classic received an
update that introduced watch face notifications.
