This phone stinks

Phone owned for less than a year

Back in the middle 2000s, I owned this phone. I only had it for four months. Everything on the phone worked just fine, except for call quality. Every time I would call my grandmother, The phone dropped the call no less than five minutes of being on the phone with her. The phone lost the signal every time and I had to wait for the phone to recover the signal, so that I could call my grandmother back. The phone gets a high rating with everything else except for the call quality. I do not recommend this phone to anyone.

My best phone!

Phone owned for

I had this phone for 5 years... and I'm a teenager. I boasted how awesome this phone was everywhere I went! It was totally indestructable (I dropped it so many times... and even left it outside in the ice for 7 hours once!). The music player had excellent quality and didn't use up much battery. As far as battery goes, it was great and lasted me a few days... unless I made calls. Actual calls consumed a lot of power and then I needed to charge it right afterward. The touch screen music controls were alright but I seldom used them. Internet was very fast and, unlike some phones now, you could store a lot of favorites to go to quickly and you could save pages. Camera had an excellent quality (I took one photo and put it up on my TV screen via my Wii one time and the quality still wasn't bad!) Browsing through the phone (i.e. Txt messages, photos, videos, etc.) was not sluggish at all! The phone had a very attractive menu style and a clean, large, main display. All of your basic applications were available and were stylish and easy to use. (Stopqatch, timer, coverter, world time, calc., tip calc., notes, tasks, calendar, alarm, etc.)If I could've kept this phone forever, I would've! The only reason I needed to finally give this phone up was because I travel a lot and, although I do have a long distance plan, calling or even just using your phone's features in foreign countries tends to suck up the battery life.

Bad battery, but good phone

Phone owned for

This phone is a decent phone, but the battery life is poor, it usually lasts less than a day. It is a very good music phone, with bluetooth headphone support and file exchange, loud stereo speakers, a good music player which you can set to run in the background. It also has buttons for music control on the front. Unfortunately, it has little internal memory, and no regular headphone jack. The interface is good on the clear screen, with easy customizable shortcuts and good menu navigation. You also can control the media player, camera, and profiles directly from the front display without opening the phone. The camera is so-so, with decent pictures but not very good videos. You can also use the camera as a mirror my accessing it through the front display.  The browser is slow for 3G, but good for the phone. It also doesn't have many good apps.

Second Phone

Phone owned for

Got this phone for free when it came to Cingular(By this time, Cingular was getting ready to switch the name to At&t.) Very nice phone to get. The 2.0 megapixels takes very good pictures. I have some on myspace if you wanna check it out. heheh. The memory for it wasn't too big nor small, but it still wasn't good. It's ok though because it comes with a Mirco slot in it. The biggest i ever had was the 1GB, dunno if you can do the 2GB. Speaker quailty is fair. The touch media keys in the front are sometimes sensitive and sometimes it can be a pain. Don't know why Samsung did this, but you have to hold the volume rocker button in order to lower or higher it, and you have to hold it for like, 5 millions years. just kidding, like 3 seconds but still is a bit redundant to do that. The Internet is amazing. it's pretty fast. atleast in my neck of the woods. it's 3G capable. The clairty of the talker isn't the best. it has a dedicated camera button so you don't have to go through all the menus to access it, as well as the mp3 player. The textbox can hold roughly about 237. (thats the farthest i got) it has the multi-tasking button on the keypad. I was able to play my mediaplayer, browse the net, and text all at once with this device. You can have certain dates that are important and set alarms for them. You can change Font size and color to monochrome or multi coloured. Customization  The OS is a bit intermediate, it's not hard but it isn't easy either. So if your looking to upgrade from shitty camera phones, with terrible internet access and simple OS, i say it's safe to start here.

Not recommended.

Phone owned for

At first site the Samsung SYNC looks amazing with the big screen and all but in reality this phone is so inconvenient. First of all the signal is horrible, it truly is terrible. I have had so many dropped calls, and no signal in some areas, and the funny thing is I live in NY which lets me have 3G speed. Second, to see the time you have to open the phone because trying to view the time on the front screen is impossible when outside. The music player is just average, there is absolutely no extra features, it only comes with about 5 ringtones, the camera isn't all that good meaning that when you move even a tiny bit while trying to take the picture it will come out blurry. Overall the phone is not recommended unless you can live with all these problems.

I have this phone for about a year now....and when i first got it, it wasn't in the shape it is now...i loved this phone when i first got it because all my other phones broke and my mom went out and bought it for me i was suprised when i recieved this phone because i was cool and phone to use. Now the volume bottom missing and the charger door broke inhalf and now there are 2 holes in my phone and the earpiece blowout and it would freeze alot and it would piss me off. About This Phone..

Phone owned for

I've had this phone for about 8 months and I love it. The only bad thing is that the signal isn't very good. Going into certain places I have absolutely no signal but other than that I think it's a very good phone. The mp3 player is awesome. It's the main reason I got the phone. Also, the keys aren't very big so it takes a little while if you are texting someone. And it's bad that you have to buy a headset or a headphone adapter if you don't want to disturb anyone while listening to your music. But all in all I think this is a very good phone. I only have those three negatives but you have signal in most places so it's still a very good phone. It takes very good pictures too.

Good feature set, if you don't mind buying a lot of extras..

Phone owned for

My biggest qualm with this phone so far is the lack of a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. For an MP3 phone called the "Sync", it's ridiculous that you need to buy either Bluetooth headphones or a headphone adaptor just to listen to music. Second, the comments about reduced signal strength are accurate, but I suspect the fewer "bars" are just a result of being farther from a 3G transmitter, calls still go through OK. The same proprietary headphone jack also functions as the jack for power, necessitating yet another purchase of an extra travel and car charger. Total all this up with the mandatory-for-music microSD card, and you can count on spending at least $30-$40 on top of the phone, even for cheapo extras on eBay. Positives: loud, generally good sound quality for calls and MP3, good camera, great internal screen. Overall, a decent value with some annoyances.

Wonderful, But Not a Looker.

Phone owned for

Its a great phone. Lovely camera. Decent music player. Goregous screen. But its not as good looking as its competitors. The RAZR2 has better body language and features almost as good. Fin from Helio looks like the A717 but has a better camera!

The phone itself looks pretty good, despite its size. I love the quality of the camera, although I've seen better photos taken from other phones with 2.0MP cam. Something I don't like at all is the signal reception. You can have different phone models one next to the other with the same company, and the Sync will be the one with less signal strength. Another downside: you can't close the phone using the speaker phone, it ends the call. I don't recommend it, there are better Samsung cellphones.

If you are clumsy, do not get this phone!!!

Phone owned for

This phone is sleek, slim, and a looker. The key are smooth, the volume is loud, and the menus are easy to navigate. The only problem is how easy it is to break it. When I was running, it fell out of my jacket and snapped in two. The plastic casing isn't very supportive. I do understand that most phones may be damaged when dropped but this phone broke too easy.

Not quite there.

Phone owned for

This phone would had been awesome if it was not for the slow UI, and that lower then expected reception on it in comparison with other phones in the same areas.. Not exactly very user friendly.. Overall is OK in comparison to some phone I had previously, but I can't wait for AT&T to realize a couple of other phones so I can replace this one ASAP.

I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!!!

Phone owned for

i have been with cingular for four years and this is the best phone I have had yet. the only problem that I dont like but that I can live with is when you flip it open its kind of slow on that part. the camera is wonderful and i like it because after you take the picture you can edited it and on most phones you can't do that. but this phone is really great even if it looks like a big rectangul, its still a great phone

Great Deal

Phone owned for

I bought this phone for my mom and my sister and they both are very picky when it comes to phones but they both love their Sync's.
This phone has a huge display and is not heavy. It comes in four colors to choose from. I whsh they offered this phone for Verizon customers do I could buy it for myself but my work pays for my service so I have to be with Verizon.

Best value

Phone owned for

I just got this phone in red on Monday. I hated my last phone and was counting the days until I could upgrade. I was going between this and the razr and chose this one since I had owned Samsung in the past and loved it. This phone has buttons that are easy to use, a screen large enough to see and clarity I didn't have with my LG phone. Compared to the Razr this is hands down a winner!

The only con so far is that I wish I had the time display all the time on the outside screen, but I'll deal with that. Signal strength indicators seem to not be as strong, however, I can still place the call when there is no bar (where I used to have several) and the call goes through perfectly-so I'm not about to stress over that!

I'm so glad I got this phone and am still playing with all the features. The pretty red color goes beautifully with my Red Sox wallpapers (Go Sox!!!!)

Bad Phone

Bottom line: it feels cheap. Its feaature set is almost identical to that of the Razr V3xx. You might as well just buy the Motorola Razr V3xx or V9 for AT&T instead of the Sync.

Bought for my kids.

Phone owned for

I recently added my two daughters to my plan, I opted for this phone do to price/features, teens like music, cameras and video's, this does it. I'm sure there are better phones, but not at 0 cost in the end. I think this phone is the best bang for the buck from AT&T, and many other carriers.

Recently I borrowed my daughters sync in a 3g area, wow webpages blasted onto the bright and easy to read screen. Got a couple of cheap $19.00 2 gig microSD cards and they were ready.

The phone seems light and plasticy, but so did some others like the 6126 which was another alternative, but had less features and cost a few bux more. But seeing I'm locked into a 2 year contract extension, might as well go with stereo bt and 3g hsdpa.

Ok...but not great

Phone owned for

I got the phone through the replacement plan of Cingular. Cause I had a faulty Motorala phone which they no longer sell. The phone seemed ok at first, but takes a day to set-up features. My signal strength dropped off by over half with it. Very limited on board ring tones, suppose you can pay to download more...but should not have to at the cost of phones.
All my other phones had lots of choices....only 10 on this one. But the biggest thing that makes no sense is the outside display, Unless your quick when you flip the cover closed you never get to see the display. You have to open the phone to see the time, signal or anything that, and seems there is no way of activating without opening the phone. So if your looking for an MP3 player or extra camera then may not be bad...but if your looking for a usable phone...would not pick this one. The samsung phones I have had were so much better than this one.
