Samsung Galaxy S5 Active now available from AT&T
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is now available from AT&T. This variant of Samsung's flagship smartphone, is rugged enough to beat the elements. The phone is shock resistant to protect it from your clumsy butterfingers. It also is resistant against dust and water. Despite rumors that the phone would be IP68 certified, it turns out that the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has the same IP67 certification that the regular Samsung Galaxy S5 has. This means that both variants of the phone can survive a submersion in up to 3.2 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active features a 5.1 inch Super AMOLED display, with a 1080 x 1920 resolution, and a quad-core 2.5GHz processor under the hood. 2GB of RAM is on board with 11GB of storage available. A 16MP camera adorns the back of the phone, while a 2MP snapper is on the front. A 2800mAh battery keeps the lights on, and Android 4.4.2 is pre-installed.

For those willing to sign a two-year pact, the handset is priced at $199.99. For those using the AT&T Next 18 plan, the device is zero down and $27.50 a month for 18 months. Those using AT&T Next 12 pay zero down, and $35.75 a month for 12 months. And those purchasing the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active on AT&T, get to save $50 on the purchase of the Samsung Gear Fit through July 24th.

No doubt that there will be some disappointed in the Galaxy S5 Active having the same IP certification as the regular model. But then again, it is priced the same. Perhaps the rumored Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime will be the model that brings enhanced water resistance to Sammy's flagship.

The fact that it is one of the few if not the only rugged phone with top notch specs.

This is a good point -- it may be the only smartphone with good specs that has the MIL-spec 810G rating.

A super rugged smartphone with super premium features with no cut offs in terms of camera or screen like GS4 active + the device looks truly awesome.

So it's basically a Galaxy S5 with a permanently attached rugged case. Not impressive...

I'd imagine that simply attaching a rugged case wouldn't magically give that IP68 rating yes?

Actually it would... but this is better because any case you attach to a SGS5 to make it as tough as this, would make the phone significantly bigger.

I would get THIS over the "regular" S5

actually, according to the article and slide 5, it has a IP67 rating, not IP68

It has the same IP rating as the original S5...

Looks impressive considering the back of the phone...just wish they would've made at least IP68 or new features to accommodate the 'acrive' feel. ..still a nice phone nonetheless

It looks like the S5 Active does not have KNOX. At least it is not mentioned on the ATT site. Maybe the bootloader will be unlocked. One can always hope.

So, it's like a Galaxy S5 with a case already on it. What a waste.

I think it looks quite different.
- The back certainly looks different. I like it better than the original S5. especially that Camo Green.. looks great.
- There's also three hard keys instead of just one. Plus there's an active button on the left side.
- The Active's edges looks a bit squarish compared to the S5.

The only thing that missing from the S5 is the fingerprint scanner, which I heard doesn't work that well.

So... It's like a Galaxy S5 with a case on it. That would change it's appearance.

Not that this is entirely on topic but after having looked at the (usual suspect of a typical Samsung product design cue) back loud speaker in the vid, you gotta ask yourself "Would it really really really be that high of a bar to put something DUAL+landscape speakers instead and it doesn't have to be Boomsound-ish big???". I mean really...

This is what the S4 active should have been. Except for that stupid camo cover, the phone looks pretty good.

It's.... um... ridiculously ugly to be honest. It kind of looks like a Windows Phone from 2010.

That's a matter of opinion. Personally I love the way it looks. Already ordered one.

Oh absolutely, beauty is totally subjective. I just find that the physical buttons looks cheap.

Funny thing is that all of the at&t stores in my area at least have no clue about this phone yet. They are like never heard of it or you must be referring to the s4 active.

Their website DOES say it's web only right now.

It doesn't when I look at it but they had no clue about it period and one tried to tell me that it was not on the website at all.
