The best, if you can digest a Chinese Maker

preetmalhotra has owned it for more than one year before publishing this review

There is only one word, BEST!
Why, because there is no benefit of excellent SoCs or features if your smartphone cannot survive for long. This phone has all you need!
The only potent rival is iPhone 6 because other Android skins lag too much and previous iPhones were way too small, and 6S series has force touch.
Rating 10, because the phone itself is so amazing, mentioning cons are not much of an issue.

Build quality
9.0
Build quality is superb. Flawless chamfered edges. Soft back. Taking one point away, because rear camera is prone to scratches. BEWARE!
Reception
10.0
Better reception than many phones. These Chinese folks definitely had something they kept hidden from Sammy and Apples and they used it for themselves.
Call quality
10.0
Crystal clear calls.
Internet
10.0
Internet capabilities are superb, with inbuilt browser as smooth as Safari.
Multimedia
9.0
Excellent video codec support. Beautiful music player. Took one point away for low speaker sound, but it does its job.
Camera
10.0
Excellent camera. Mind it, the two most important things in a camera are image quality and speed. MI 4 is definitely going to surprise you here. Beautiful pictures with superb speed. Also a feature worth mentioning is the 'Chroma Flash'. 4K also comes as a strength. 8 MP at front
UI speed
10.0
Superb, Superb, Simply Superb! MIUI is flawless. may it be speed, features or security, its superb. Perfectly in connection and sync throughout.
Everyday usage
10.0
MIUI has instant responce. You click something, it gets opened. what else you need? Superb ergonomics.
Text input
10.0
As it is a part of UI, its amazing as far as you are using Google keyboard or Flesky.
Display
10.0
Display has been a major issue of this smartphone. Since lot of people complain to see some yellow tint. Here's what is going on behind the scenes. The first MI4 had a different display. It actually had a blue tint due to which, the smartphone had better contrast, better whites and better brighness. However, it actually had GAMMA and sRGB errors. This was rectified in new displays, which looked yellow compared to initial units. This is actually what the original sRGB looks like with a proper GAMMA.
Battery
10.0
See PhoneArena battery tests. This is real, "More than 7 hrs of SoT". What else you need. Batery life is amazing, and practically better than G3, S5, Note 3, Z3 and other comparable smartphones.

Pros

  • One of the best overall smartphone packages(features, reliability, performance)
  • Fast Charging. (2% in 1 minute, under some restrictions)
  • Excellent 13mp 2160p rear camera
  • Great 8mp 1080p front camera
  • MIUI is definitely a bridge between Android and iOS
  • Display boost (Automatic Contrast) can boost brightness of darker areas to some extent in sunlight
  • Most well-built 'value for money' device

Cons

  • No SD slot forces you to buy 64 GB version if 16 isn't enough
  • No headphones out of the box, and MI earphones aren't worth
  • Sunlight reflectivity
  • Lacks NFC
  • Lacks fingerprint sensor.

Recommended android phone in 140x70 class

Tooluka has owned it for less than month before publishing this review

Good screen, almost 100% sRGB coverage, sligtly higher red and green. Primitive tuning of gamma (3 fixed values only).
High screen to body ratio.
Good battery and battery life.
Good button ergonomics, small screen mode available.
Very functional and pretty UI. Some non-english services are in the phone firmware.
Easy root - in dev. firmware by default. Dual partition design for easy firmware revert.
Lots of storage in64Gb version. Sightly slower storage than newest Samsung UFS implementation but way faster than any class 10 microsd card.
Average sound pipeline (expecially inferior compared to bigger brothers with Sabre DAC and TI amp).
Some users report bad (quiet) mic or phone dynamic. No such issues on my phone yet.
Lots of models with different radios, hard to discern them. As a short guideline, in "about phone - model name" you should see either Mi 4W (3G WCDMA, no LTE) or Mi 4LTE-CU (3G WCDMA, 4G FDD-LTE - band1, band3).
Do not buy Mi 4LTE-CMCC and any other models, 3G and 4G in it will work only in China.

Great price, great performance

boleslawwolowik has owned it for less than year before publishing this review

After 6 months of using it I have to say that it is so far the best phone I've every had. Bought it for around 330 euro. Sill 6 months after can't find anything better than Xiaomi Mi4. The camera could be a bit better and SD slot would be a great thing to have.

Perfect build!

patrykt has owned it for less than month before publishing this review

Perfect build, MIUIv6 not worsed than TouchWIZ. 4G works on Band3. Battery last over one day under heavy use, Google Play preinstalled. Can't wait for Win10 ROM that was just recently announced. A lot of accessories is available on ebay or xiaomiforsale.com
