Massive outage affects tens of thousands of X users

According to Downdetector, social media site X and Reddit are experiencing outages to start the week. For the app and website once known as Twitter, a whopping 35,659 complaints were submitted to Downdetector at 9:59 AM EDT from just 37 a half-hour before (9:29 AM EDT).
The X outage affected major US cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, and Miami
45% of those submitting a complaint said that the app was down, 30% could not access their feed or timeline, and 15% said that they had a problem with the app. Several X users have written in to Downdetector about the outage.
Which social media site do you use the most?
The problems with the site appear to affect major cities in the East Coast such as Boston, New York, Raleigh, N.C., Atlanta, and Miami. Cities in the Midwest impacted by the X outage include Chicago. Houston X subscribers are also affected.

As recently as 11:30 AM EDT, X users were still complaining that the service was down. Ironically, with X down, the comment section on Downdetector's X page was turned into a makeshift social media site with hundreds of users exchanging comments about the outage

Another social media site, Reddit, is also down according to Downdetector. The number of submitted complaints soared from 10 at 5:25 AM EDT to a peak of 3,185 by 9:55 AM EDT. 73% of users reporting to Downdetector had a problem with the Reddit app, while 10% had an issue with a server connection and another 10% couldn't access the Reddit website.
X has 550 million to 570 million monthly active users (MAU) and 238 million to 259 million daily active users. Reddit says that it has 1.1 billion MAU and its DAU range is 97 million to 116 million.
Cloudflare says that it has "mitigated the majority of congestion and packet drops"
Cloudflare, a company that offers infrastructure and security services for many social media sites like X and Reddit, said earlier today that it is investigating a fiber cut. On its status page, Cloudflare says that it has successfully mitigated the majority of congestion and packet drops by 12:30 PM EDT. While the company says that "services are largely stable," intermittent problems might still be seen in North America.
Elon Musk is the controlling stockholder in X. He completed the purchase of what was then called Twitter in October 2022, paying $44 billion for the company. In July 2023, Musk changed the name of the social media app and website to X.
