The Apple Vision Pro lost all its steam mere days after launch as the reality of its $3,499 price tag began to catch up with the hype. Since then, we’ve all known that the Vision Pro situation has been bad, but I couldn’t have imagined that it was as bad as we’re now finding out.

Apple insider Mark Gurman, in his newsletter Power On, reveals that retail employees have said that stores around the world are lucky if they sell one Vision Pro unit a month. For comparison, around eight iPhones are sold every second, and 20.6 million each month.
The Vision Pro doesn’t even qualify to be put on the same scale as the iPhone or any other Apple product. One unit per month for the luckier stores is, simply put, a beyond depressing number for Apple’s premium MR (Mixed Reality) headset.

Apple is losing faith internally
Inside the company, outlook for the Vision Pro’s future is bleak. The Vision Pro team is fighting to stay funded and brainstorming ideas on how to make a more appealing successor.
Apple CEO John Ternus was skeptical of the Vision Pro before it came out in 2024. Though Ternus has publicly defended the headset quite recently, Gurman claims that the CEO doesn’t really see a future for the Vision Pro, as evidenced by what he says internally at Apple.

Ternus feels that the Vision Pro is most likely a stepping stone for the company and not an actual long-term product that’s going to stick around.

It’s difficult to say whether there will be another Apple Vision Pro in the future. Some people inside the company have faith in this category if it’s approached reasonably.
The Vision Pro has a small but dedicated user base that will be left feeling shortchanged if the series is discontinued in the pursuit of smart glasses instead. In fact, some people are still waiting for the Vision Pro to make it to their country.

As hopeless as it might seem at the moment, I’m still optimistic that Apple will at least give this market another go with a more affordable headset in the future. Sure, smart glasses are taking priority right now, but the company is also experimenting with new designs and concepts that I had said it needed to years ago.
