Stunning solar red HTC U11 finally coming to the US

Hate it when the smartphone you want to buy isn't available where you live? You're far from alone, and whether we're talking about entire handsets that simply aren't for sale in certain countries, or maybe just particular versions of a phone with special features or color options, it's nothing but frustrating to know that your dream-phone is just out of reach due to some happenstance of geography. But sometimes all it takes to put you together with the phone you've been craving is a little patience, and today we've got good news for smartphone fans who were feeling a bit jealous of shoppers who had access to the dazzling “solar red” HTC U11, as the company announces that availability of this color is now spreading to the United States.

Initially, the U11 launched in the US in just three of its five color options: silver, black, and blue, but no white or red. And while all those color choices exhibited some really neat appearance-changing effects as you turned the phone and looked at it from different angles, few displayed such a pronounced shift as the solar red U11, turning to a near-yellow right in your hand.

If you're in the US and want to pick up the U11 in red, you can get your pre-order in starting tonight at midnight (Eastern Time) at We're not sure just when shipments will start heading out, but expect the red U11 to go for the same roughly-$650 price tag as the existing colors.

There's no word yet on any possible plans for the white U11 landing in the States, but we'll keep an eye out for it, just in case.

If the U11 (even in red) isn't quite for you, HTC's got plenty of other hardware on sale right now, as part of its Fun in the Sun deals, so be sure to check those out, as well.
