iPhone XR finally receives FCC approval ahead of October 26 release
Shortly after Apple’s event earlier this month it was revealed that the upcoming iPhone XR had still not received its FCC approval. But now, just over two weeks later, the cheaper iPhone device has finally been certified, paving the way for its release next month.
Much like the flagship iPhone XS and XS Max, the iPhone XR makes use of an all-screen design that mimics last year’s iPhone X. Unlike this device, though, the XR includes a new LCD panel which Apple is calling “Liquid Retina.” Additionally, the smartphone also lacks the secondary telephoto lens that can be found on the rear of Apple’s more premium offerings.
Despite these differences and the lower price tag of $750, the iPhone XR includes the same A12 Bionic processor as its more expensive siblings and Face ID up front. Moreover, Portrait Mode with Depth Control is possible thanks to software trickery. Elsewhere on the feature list, wireless charging is included alongside what is allegedly the best battery life ever on an iPhone.
Those interested in the device will be able to pre-order it starting October 19. Shipments of the iPhone XR are then set to commence just one week later on October 26.
