Would you use a tablet to take photos and/or record video?

If you watch the short video embedded above, you'll see that, according to Microsoft, there may be times when you just have to use a tablet to take photos. Needless to say, snapping photos (or shooting video) with a tablet can be rather cumbersome, especially if we talk about larger than usual devices - like the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (12.3-inch screen) that's seen in the video above, or Apple's brand new iPad Pro (12.9-inch screen).

We're curious to know how many of our readers would use, or are using tablets to take photos and record video. Do you think it's easy to do it? Is it a good thing that manufacturers are equipping tablets with decent camera sensors, instead of not doing it (which would cut production costs and retail prices)?

Yes I would, and yes I do. The capability is there, and the moment has called for it, cause it was in my hand at the time.

Exactly! It's not like your making calls with it to your face. Plus, professional video cameras are huge and are often shoulder mounted or come with tripods/stabilizers. I really don't know what the issue here is.

I would use it as a scanner with Office Lens, similar to this (bit.ly/1Hruf8o), facial recognition for biometric authentication, and video conference/memo like any webcam. But for ordinary photos, only if it's the only camera in my hand for the important moment...

i think tablets are a better device to record videos. i prefer to shoot videos with tablets rather than smartphone. but no for still images.

i'm talking about a real video here, i'm not talking about recording useless videos on the concert. heck, i'm not even check my phone if i'm on a concert. because the viewfinder is really big on the tablet/iPad, it's really useful that you can see what is on the frame very clearly. but iPad Pro is too big.

yes, iPad's cameras are good enough for shooting videos and with a correct lighting could produce some great footage, love the big screen viewfinder.

Like they say, the best camera is the one you have on you. So if that's all I got, it sure beats missing the moment.

Only if I didn't have my phone or camera and the tablet was 8 inches or less.

I was gonna say the same thing, albeit with only a seven incher. 8 inches still seems a lot to me for holding

When I bought nexus 7 2013 I remember saying who cares about camera on tablet... but I actually shot pictures that are now really important to me, Because my phone wasn't available at moment.

Of course, if I didn't have my phone at hand...but I would rely on it. I think the surface book/pro camera's are probably the first ones I would consider using.

I wouldn't. And when I see people doing it I say to myself "look at this idiot".

Sure. If the tablet is in my hand, and I feel that the image warrants that be taken at a moments notice.
