Upcoming Motorola Droid will likely feature wireless charging

Upcoming Motorola Droid will likely feature wireless charging
Despite what some rumors wanted us to believe, earlier this week Motorola didn't announce any new Droid smartphones, instead unveiling the Moto X Style (aka Moto X Pure Edition), the Moto X Play, and the Moto G (2015). However, when mentioning that the Moto X Play will not be released in the US, Motorola did say that "more choices" for US customers would be available sometime later this year - which likely means that new Droids are coming.

We already saw a rear panel that allegedly belongs to a new Motorola Droid, and now it's time to take a look at two new images that reportedly show the back chassis of the same upcoming Droid. Just like last year's Droid Turbo, the new model seems to be featuring wireless charging. Unfortunately, for now, that's all we know about the upcoming Droid.

You can check out the new images in the slideshow below. Also included is the previously leaked Moto Droid rear panel (which kind of resembles the back panel of the Moto X Style, though the pattern is obviously different).

It's not clear exactly when the new Motorola Droid will be announced. In any case, just like all previous models, the handset should be exclusively sold by Verizon in the US.

And the price will be $200 more than the Moto X Pure and locked down to Verizon with no way to root.

Also any current phone with a metal back But that's going change now that Qualcomm has figured how to get wireless charging to work with metal backs

So Motorola is prepared to screw customers over again.

Screwing customers over is charging people $950 for a underspeced phone that bends in your pocket and allows your jeans to stain the color of the cheap material they use to construct it with. only to give it updates that strips it of its wifi and GPS functionality.

scott you're too harsh there.... underspec-ed? but just as fast... bends? - still looking to see one in real life, cheap material? maybe, but what is cheap? how much does the back cover to galaxy S4/5 Note4 cost? I bet pennies. Not dissing - just in comparison. my phones have never lost wifi or GPS for the 2 years running... Not saying you're wrong, but you're not correct either... but I understand that mxy's post deserves a reply like yours... so no beef here!

Yes, I'm harsh, and while the phone is fast, it doesn't change how little you get for how much you spend. Compare it to the recently announced Moto X Pure Edition, it has 1/3 the RAM, a smaller battery, that doesn't charge anywhere near as fast as the Moto X Style, a smaller display, with poorer resolution, with a much larger bezel, a now inferior camera, no after market storage upgrade options, any pre-purchase storage upgrade will cost the consumer double, voice controls for the iPhone (copied from the original Moto X) only works while the device is plugged in, No stereo front facing speakers. Now compare the price of the Moto X Style of $399, with the iPhone 6 Plus at $949 and tell me who's screwing customers over. And my criticisms about issues with their software updates are either from first hand experience dealing with co-worker's issues with wifi or with numerous reports online regarding the GPS after the Apple music update.

You've been around for nearly a year and only 11 posts? I'm honored that one of them was used to mock me so effectively. lol, Well done good sir. +1

15. Mxyzptlk unregistered

I'm not done burying you. Actually you're right about the ram. It is no longer acceptable for iPhones to have 1 gig of ram or 16GB of storage. I'll give them credit, they announced a feature for iOS 9 that will help with storage when it comes to updates and app data. Actually the iPhone only charges slowly when using the brick it comes with. Using the iPad block or something that gives off more amps will charge it up faster. How do I know? Because I've done it before and I'm not talking out of my rear. Camera lol you want to go there? Yes the iPhone has 8MP. Yet it's consistently the best camera and interface out there. Get it through your big head. The Moto X is just now getting stereo speakers but I find it hypocritical you call out the iPhone for not having them yet even though I mentioned that against the inferior 2014 model and you toss it to the side. You've been buried.

So where's the justification for charging $949? Why would anyone pay way more than double for something so unimpressive? Who's screwing over their customers more? It you like I can post a comment linking a dozen of online publications that are thrilled with how much this new Moto X offers for such little, I think this site even has an article saying they're making the best phones these days. http://www.phonearena.com/news/Is-Motorola-making-the-best-Android-phones-these-days_id72136 In fact, I can find a dozen articles from respectable online publications for the last two Moto X phones that say they're the best there at the time of their release while costing way less than the competition so your argument is invalid. Motorola Offers superior user experiences to their customers, the 118% growth over the past year is evidence of this. Motorola is not screwing anyone over.

First of all where on earth are you getting that figure from? You're just spewing bs now.

Google "Motorola sales up 118%" and you will get bombarded with articles from all over the internet. It's not exactly a secret, the fact that you do not know just shows how truely ignorant you are.

Camera lol you want to go there? Yes the iPhone has 8MP. Yet it's consistently the best camera and interface out there. Get it through your big head. One of the best maybe, but damn sure not THE best, because it list all blind camera tests to the Note 4. Sorry, he's still surfaced. Your response was Meek Mills' response to Drake.

Who gives a f-? We're talking about the terrible camera of the Moto X compared to the iPhone. So yeah he is buried.

Scott is talking out of his @$$ again. He wants to talk about crippling? How about the many lollipop users who have an unusable phone stuck on 5.0.1. How about lollipop aggressive memory measures in the S6 where apps are constantly closing. How about the many keyboard issues that plague users using Chrome on lollipop. How about the biggest vulnerability in smartphones recently discovered on Android. How about the reports of lag and slowdown in lollipop in phones that have more than capable specs. How about the recent update Google did to YouTube that makes the interface even more cumbersome and horrendous than before. How about the many violations of privacy and antitrust violations Google has been accused of? Like forcing people to try and sign up for G+. Did you know Google puts more preference for G+ than they do for other social media platforms? How about Google changing s**t around in various services that users end up not liking but Google says they do? I can go on all night. Don't sit here and try to act like android is devoid of any problem or issue. For the record since I do bounce back and forth between the iPhone and the Note 4 I've not experienced any problems with my phone being crippled from regular use. Before you say it I did not say iOS 8 was perfect and I'm more than happy to provide a link to the comment I made to darkkjedi where I hoped Apple would fine tune iOS in iOS 9 and make it a seemless experience throughout with the included multitasking. Once your done taking your foot out of your mouth and digging yourself out of that hole I'll be waiting to see what ridiculous response you come up with. Checkmate

Wow, you spent a lot of time trying to change the subject, not a single point in all your ranting and raving did you ever try to justify your original statement "Motorola is prepared to screw customers over again". Your comment just made you look incredibly stupid. And speaking of stupid, if you hate Android so much, why the crap do you claim to own a Samsung phone? What kind of dumb ass spends years complaining about the quality of a good or service and still spend his money on it? Are your parents siblings or something? Because that would really explain a lot.

20. Mxyzptlk unregistered

So you're deflecting and don't really have a real response? Actually releasing a superior model tied to one carrier is a duck move so yeah my comment has merit. When did I ever say I hate android? Lol this proves you don't have a proper response and you've taken to insinuating I'm an inbred. I'll take that as a sign of you admitting defeat because you have nothing to counter what I said. Seems fitting for the ninth child in a family of eight.

I'm so proud that after hounding you for two weeks you finally managed to post a comment with the proper your/you're, then you went and ducked it up. lol. And so what if your family tree is a palm tree, it's not like that's something I can blame you for, I'm pretty much passing judging on the several generations of mistakes/poor judgments that lead to you, but don't feel like I'm judging you because I'm not, I pity you.

Should I start with iphone and ios? 1. Bendgate 2. Antenna gate (you are holding it wrong) and giving bumper cases to fix the issue 3. iOS 8 keyboard crashing, touch id not working, imessage bug, I wont even go on to ios 8 on older iphones-it literally cripples them. 4. iPhone 6 with 128gb of storage bootlooping and whatnot, response by apple? only few customers were affected. 5. iOS 8.4 showing apple music down your throat hate it or love it, it will stay there forever. 6. Wi-Fi glitches 7. Did I said anything about battery? Cause SoT its terrible, even my S4 have longer battey life. 8. Multi-tasking will come only on few devices just like on other iPhone 4s you dont have airdrop while same version on iPhone 6 have it so yea you wont get all the features on older phones aka you need to buy a new phone for whole package.

9. Apple Maps 10. The Fappening, which Apple could have avoided but did nothing for half a year after the issue was first reported. 11. iOS 8 and it's countless glitches, more so than Any version of Android. 12. 1,500 Apps that act as back doors to the OS that Apple can't do anything about. 13. Investigated by the Department of Justice for anti competitive practices towards online streaming services. 14. Texts going into oblivion if anyone leaves their platform requiring hoops to jump through to resolve. 15. Texts that crash your phone. 16 Deleting non iTunes music from your iDevices (Also resulted in an investigation by the Department of Justice) 17. forcibly downloading a U2 album on everyone's iPhone that no one wanted with no way to remove it until your entire user base protested online. 18. Revoking media privileges for online tech site for reporting on Bendgate, "if you report honestly on how bad we really are you get punished!". 19. iPhones blowing up on planes, in people's pockets, while they're asleep in bed. This list can go on for a while really, And I'm sorry that I'm bashing Apple here for anyone that's offended, but I'm trying to point out hypocrisy of Mxyzptlk in that he passes judgement on both Motorola and Google for things being done (in many cases to a greater degree) by other companies, but you never read his criticizing comments unless it's a Motorola, Google, or Blackberry article.

Will be as ugly as the previous one.

yep, and you can go ahead and design your own, make sure most of consumers like the design (not just you), make it ergonomic, make sure you make some profit, and fit all the tech into it... on try not to infringe on anyones design patents while at it... good luck..! Edit, and after you're done with all the machenery, paying wages, shipping, advertizing, etc... sell it for under $600
