Samsung's Gear A circular smartwatch to have 3G and calling functionality
After completing its goal of being the first to put a smartwatch on users' wrists, Samsung is picking up an even more ambitious task - make a perfect smartwatch. That, or get close to it, at least! To make it happen, Samsung is gearing up to release a circular smartwatch by the name of Gear A. Codenamed "Orbis", the device will, reportedly, arrive in two variants - one with Bluetooth connectivity and one with 3G and calling support, with both versions being Wi-Fi connected too.

Nex to this bit of info comes a full list of the Gear A model numbers, which reveals that the smartwatch will be offered by the nation's largest telecoms - AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile. The list is available in the source link below.

Although the Gear A will be undoubtedly better than Samsung smartwatches before it, it carries the weight of competing with the Apple Watch on its figurative shoulders. Seeing that Apple might be investigating a standalone version of the iWatch with 3G and calling functionality, Samsung will have to give its Gear A a heavy marketing push if it wants its efforts to pay off. Then again, the company is leading the adolescent smartwatch market, which means it's got a proper head start.

Come on Samsung give us another Android Wear device. Tizen is okay, but Android Wear is better.

Tizen enables to achieve almost double battery life. And Tizen can run android apps.

None of the Tizen smart watches run Android apps, because there is no Android runtime on any of their watches. So saying that Tizen can run Android apps is useless. Besides Android applications (phone and tablet apps) can add Android Wear functionality without the need to actually create and app for the Android Wear smart watch. This is NOT possible on Tizen smart watches. The only way to add features and functionality to Tizen smart watches is to create an app. Android Wear gives you two methods. So just like Tizen developers can create standalone applications for Android Wear or inject existing Android phone or tablets apps with Android Wear code. Besides there is more apps now for Android Wear. I have both Android Wear and Tizen devices.

3G calling capability means no Android Wear.

There is two variants of this watch. One without 3G and one with. So this could be like LG with their Urbane smart watch. There is two versions. The LTE version is Not using Android Wear, and the other Urbane version is running Android Wear.

Does Android Wear run in circular watches ONLY?

I still don't understand the point of this. Assuming it isn't supposed to replace a phone (why not just buy a low-end Android phone, which is cheaper and has more functionality?), what is the point of calling functionality? Who is going to talk into their watch and have their private conversations on speakerphone?

Great for when you're in the car, and don't have a Bluetooth hands free in-car kit... Just saying there are plenty of situations..

Honestly, who wants another phone payment on a watch phone plan? I think people just assume that's why smart watches aren't selling. Smart watches are really just smart jewelry. It will be about look and brand name, not function.

You can already pay for Starbucks and Tim Hurtons coffee with Android Wear smart watches.

I wouldn't buy any kind of smart watches till they come up with innovative ideas and better working batteries. Apple Watch is just a gimmick and android watches are not innovative enough. I think, why would I wear a watch when my smart phone already does a better job.

smartwatch clasp is the ugliest and bulkiest part of the device until the apple watch looks like samsung found their solution, ripping off apple watch's design how can a billion dollar company that essentially represents an entire country be so shameless?

Clearly you are either trolling or your an idiot. The Android Wear smart watches allow users to change the bands and use regular watch bands. People can buy regular watch bands from Amazon or go to their local jeweler. The Apple smart watches use Apples proprietary watch bands ONLY, and at Apples much higher prices. I bought Pebbles stainless steel watch band for $25 and used it on my Moto 360. A friend of mine took his Gear Live smart watch to his local jeweler and bought a stainless steel band for $15, and that included them putting the new band on as well. Apple charges $449 for their stainless steel band. Apple is ripping you off. If you don't mind Apple giving it too you up the you know what. Then go for it.

Folks Samsung already has 3g coneectivity phone the Gear S. it also has wifi and bluetooth. they are the leaders of technology but if they want to steal the market, they need to go with an LTE watch with more storage, faster processor and a video calling camera. they will leave apple way behind.

Exactly. They should make their phones with all the tech and refinements that don't exist yet. Seriously, why shouldn't it also already have a laser to cut through steel or maybe a cloaking device?
