The History Channel's 100% historically-inaccurate TV production, The Great Martian War, documents a hypothetical past in which the 1913 Martian invasion of Earth from H. G. Wells' book The War Of The Worlds really happened. In the 1898 sci-fi classic's actual plot, the blood-thirsty aliens quickly died from their lack of immunity against Earth's diseases. But before they succumbed to a particularly nasty cold, the powerful Martians almost leveled Britain with the ground. This is what the show and its namesake spin-off iOS game are about.

The Great Martian War is a visceral 3D endless runner in which you play the part of Gus Lafonde, a soldier who must dodge land mines, artillery strikes, and Martian tripods in the heat of the battle. Every run is supposed to be unique, as the game has randomly generated levels. The game boasts an achievement system, experience points, character upgrades, and WWI-era power-ups. The developer promises future updates will bring more content to the game. How about a mode that lets us play as the alien fiends, for starters?

The Great Martian War is a free game with in-app purchases. It requires an iPad 2, iPhone 4s, or a 5th-gen iPod Touch at minimum to run, due to its "advanced Martian technology". Check out the screenshots and trailer, and head to the app store from the link below if you want it.
