Today T-Mobile announced two new variants of the Sidekick design, which unfortunately will be available after more than a month. It is a rather strange decision from the carrier, especially considering that the rumor information and even live pictures leaked a few months ago, but it is probably in order to attract even more attention. The two new Sidekicks are the LX which can be considered as the successor of the Sidekick 3, again manufactured by Sharp and the Slide, which is by Motorola and the first Sidekick without the uniquely swiveling display.

The Sidekick LX is very similar to the Sidekick 3 by its look, but will come in two color variants, including “midnight blue” and “espresso brown” and feature customizable light settings, called “Mood lights”, which alert for various things, including messages, IM, email and phone. The biggest improvement is the screen, a 3” unit with WQGA resolution of 400x240 pixels, which is 2.5 times more than the one of the predecessor. The LX will also be usable with the MySpace application and as one can expect from a Sidekick comes with IM, email and now enhanced Web browser with improved JavaScript support. Although the features and the display are greater, the battery time is improved to 6.8 hours of talk time, instead of 4.5 for the Sidekick 3. The memory slot is now microSD instead of miniSD.

The Sidekick LX will be available for $299 with a 2-year contract on October 17th and will be widely available on October 24th.

The Sidekick Slide lacks the swiveling display thing, but is much smaller than the LX, both shorter and slimmer.
ModelDimension (Inches)Dimension (mm)Weight (oz)Weight (Gramms)
Sidekick LX5.1" x 2.36" x 0.86"129.5 x 60 x 225.7161.6
Sidekick Slide4.6" x 2.4" x 0.68"117 x 61 x 175.3150

It immediately brings resemblance with other Sidekicks by the largeQWERTY and the form as a whole, but this one is finished in black withdeep purple accents. Other features are similar to the LX but thedisplay is just QVGA (320x240) and the battery talk time is 5.8 hours.

The Sidekick Slide will be available for $199 with the contract to T-Mobile but not until November 7.
