Soon you will be able to use your Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch with an iOS device

Samsung's keynote event at CES 2016 just ended, and one of the important things that were mentioned on stage was nothing else but its newest smartwatch family - the Tizen-powered Gear S2 lineup, which we liked very much. Apart from scoring two new versions - a platinum and a rose gold one - there is a new and rather important news regarding Samsung new wearable - they are about to score iOS compatibility later this year. Currently, you can only use a Gear S2 smartwatch with an Android device.

That's right, the Tizen-running Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic will seamlessly work with your iPhone or iPad. We suppose that certain features of the wearable will be lost in the process. One of the more possible candidates is the support for Samsung Pay, which will also roll later to the smartwatch later this year, as it will most likely require a Samsung smartphone to be paired with the wearable. Currently, Samsung Pay is only supported on Samsung phones, but we heard that this might change sometime in the future.

That's merely a speculation though. Nonetheless, the upcoming compatibility between the Gear S2 and iOS will certainly be beneficial to those not impressed with the Apple Watch, yet still keen on smartwatches.

As to when the cross-platform compatibility will be rolled out to the masses, our guess is as good as yours - it is only known this will happen later this year. Beware, Apple Watch, some serious competition is coming your way!

Interesting. I like this watch. Have to see what features will work with iOS.

Hopefully it won't be as half-baked as Android Wear's iOS support.

hey, the apple watch would be great if it weren't for the horrible battery life and downright ripoff band pricing.

At least IOS users can now have a decent watch to use with their iPhones and have a better choice of hardware, at least on the watch front anyway.

Samsung Pay I hope won't be tied to it working only with the phone. The benefit of the Gear S2 is it is a standalone devce. If Samsung Pay and all the Gear features can be made to work with iOS, the Apple Watch is dead. Right now it's hanging by a thread. This is of course if the company suing Apple over the watch doesn't kill the first by banning sales. So Apple Watch has double trouble.

Samsung is late to this party as all the other OEM's in Android have already been selling in iOS. I'm talking from Asus to Huawei, LG, Moto, Pebble, etc... O.o
