Sony Xperia Z4 Compact to be unveiled on May 13th?
While most "mini" versions of flagship phones are smaller in size with less impressive specs, Sony has taken a much different tact with its "Compact" line. The Sony Xperia Zx Compact models are indeed smaller than the full-size versions, but the specs are basically the same. Occasionally the smaller phones provide the better mobile experience. For example, users said that the 4.3-inch, 720p screen on the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact was better than the 5-inch 1080p display on the full-sized model.

What brings this up is a report out of Russia that gives us a possible unveiling date for the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact. Before we give you that date, we do want to mention that a leaked image reveals that the Xperia Z4 Compact will have a model number of SO-04G. The Sony Xperia Z4, which is reportedly being sold only in Japan (another model will be offered globally), was officially announced last month with a model number of SO-03G/SOV31.

Now that this is all clear, we can tell you to expect the Sony Xperia Z4 Compact to be introduced on May 13th. That happens to be exactly one week from today, so circle your calendar and keep your schedule open for next Wednesday.

Thanks for the tip!

Looking forward to this! A 4.8" 1080p display might be too much but hey, a guy can dream, right?

I'm not so sure if it will be only a dream as the c4 will have a 1080p screen and that is a mid range phone. The compact line is a mid range phone with high end specs. The price starts at 499 here and flagships go for 600+.

They might think that under 5" is too small for 1080p. But it'd be great if they went with it! No need for a 2k display!

The M7 was 1080p and 4.7 inch, the display was great.

Oh yeah, I've forgotten about that! Not sure about how Sony's way of thinking goes though.

Thos could be true but i think the z4 or 5? compact is the nr. 3 phone sony makes. The flagship z lone is nr 1 and ultra nr 2. The compact should be above the t,c and e line in everything except for size ;)

You need to wait for Z5 Compact for such display.

I'd rather see them stick to the 4.6" It is my comfort zone but hey, 4.8" might be good if they make the overall body design easy and non-slippery to hold.

Doubt it. The Japanese Z4 is just... a Z3 with better specs. I honestly have a "big screen envy" right now, seeing my friends have above 5" displays.

Sweet! Sony has a soft spot in my heart for sticking with the Compact series.

I just hope they'll update the design to make it really a small version of the Z4. I didn't like the fact that the Z3 Compact had a different design than the Z3. The Z1 Compact was much more of a true compact version of the Z1. If the want to make a small, powerful version of the Z4 with different design, they'll have to name it something else. This is one thing Apple does right. The iPhone Plus is really the iPhone, only bigger. And Sony did the same with the Z1 and the Z1 Compact. If I want a Z4 Compact, I want a small version of it with aluminium frame and all.

Bring it on Sony. Snapdragon 810 powering a 720p ~4.6 Inch screen!

Hopfully, the compactness does not cause it to heat up, but then again you can always place it in water to cool.

Won't heat up as much, probably because of the less pixels to push.

and a 2900 or 3000mah battery. That's just wow.

I hope we hear something about Z4 Ultra. Hope Camera isn't a big letdown like the previous Z Ultra.

SD805 (faster RAM than SD808) + 4.8" 1080p+ 3000mAh + 16 MPx IMX230 = absolute perfection!

THIS! Or If Sony can do some mumbo jumbo thermal magic like Xiamoi, The SD810 (jk) XD

SD805? I don't think so. It's 32-bit processor so it doesn't support newer 64-bit systems (like Lollipop).

uhhhh, lollipop is supported on both 32bit and 64bit processors, and most apps right now are optimized for 32bit anyway, for the next 2-3 years, maybe 64 bit will start to become mainstream( as app optimized ) but 805 will do fine for now. Oh yeah, for debating with your point, nexus 6 uses 805 which doesn't support 64bit but has lollipop with it since launched, and google is gonna support this device for at least 2 years.

Nexus 6 was developed before 64-bit chips were available. They're available now and considering the fact that Sony updated their flagships for at least two years it's quite sensible to switch to 64-bit architecture.

"faster RAM than SD808" in case you missed it.

Qi wireless charging and upgraded camera would make a Z4c a must buy for me... Honestly, more focus on the Compact series (filling the sub 5-inch handset void left by the other manufacturers) might keep Sony's mobile division from going belly up!

If they can somehow reduce the top and bottom bezel then a 5" compact would be a winner.

This is not z4c. It is the customized Z3 for japan market only. Like the xperia A2(SO-01), people call it a z2 compact, but it was not.

Reminder: Sony update the Z series 2 times a year, and the Zcompact series once a year. So I believe this is not z4c
