Snapchat redesigns Discover section and allows subscribing to channels

1comment

Snapchat Stories has become arguably the best feature of the app (especially if you like creeping on people rather than communicating with them), but the Discover tab has been a bit troubled. Some people we've talked to admitted to forgetting that the Discover tab was even there. But, a new update wants to make the feature a bit better.

Previously, the Discover tab was a simple grid of circular logos for each content channel, but Snapchat wants users to get a better sense of what to expect from those channels. So, the grid has changed to squares that include images and text that tease one of the top stories to expect from within the channel. Maybe even better, the update now allows users to subscribe to a channel which will customize the list of channels that appear at the top of the Stories tab.

Of course, while this update is nice enough for users, the real aim is for content channels to get more eyeballs because that's where Snapchat serves up ads and therefore gets its money. The change allows channels to stand out a bit more and attract users to click more often.

The change is rolling out to users starting today, so it should hit your device when the app updates.
