Samsung Galaxy Note5, S6, S6 edge and S6 edge+ might soon get a major update - Android 6.0?
With Google getting ready to launch Android 6.0 Marshmallow as soon as next week - when two new Nexus smartphones are expected to make their official debut - major Android handset makers are likely already planning updates to the latest version of the OS. Or at least this seems to be the case with Samsung.

According to SamMobile, Samsung is currently working on a "major" software update for its Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, and Galaxy Note5. Since all four handsets already run Android Lollipop, this major update will probably bring Android 6.0 Marshmallow to all of them (though for now SamMobile can't confirm this). Of course, the update might also be related to changes that won't necessarily bring Android 6.0, though it makes sense for us to expect all of Samsung's latest high-end smartphones to get Marshmallow sometime soon.

In related news, it's said that the Galaxy Note 4 will also be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which isn't exactly surprising. It's not clear if the Note 4 will get Marshmallow at the same time with the newer high-end Galaxies, but let's wait and see what happens, okay?

Sometime soon = 90 days after marshmallow is released Major carrier update = another 90 days after that This is why I bought the Moto X Pure Edition.

Lollipop upgrades on any Nexus or Moto didn't actually make any device magically better than KK 4.4.4. 5.0/5.0.1/5.0.2 all were plugged by bugs and worse batterylife. It's not a secret for anyone. Only after 5.1 that it started to stabilize. Tell me one thing: did your Moto/nexus gave you magically better battery, camera, sustained performance just because it upgraded faster?

No is the obvious answer here and no one claimed anything that you said. My only point is that for people, like myself, who enjoy having the latest software and not having to wait 6 months for an update, buying the Moto X or a Nexus is the best option.

Who cares. My GS6 rocks right now. The only thing I remember about Marshmallow is that really ugly new app drawer. Still though, if Samsung get get 6.0 out right away, even if it's just by name it would shut up the haters really good. That's what they should do, just releas an update that changes the about device info from 5.1.1 to 6.0. That's what Apple basically does anyways. Lol

Apple bullies carriers into pushing updates I'm sure. That's just how they do business. It was probably in the deal to allow them to sell iPhones is that the updates get pushed when Apple WANTS. Our fragmentation and slow adoption is just based on the fact there are so many (too many) Android devices.

Oh god what a silly comment you don't know how Apple works it's kinda funny because you try and knock Apple but fail miserably let me tell you why IOS is made by Apple not by carriers Carriers do NOT need to modify the software and Apple doesn't bully carriers into pushing iOS updates out because carriers do not manage iOS just think about it next time you try bag out Apple

Oh and if Apple can update a iPhone 4s and iPad 2 both 4 years old along with every other iPhones and iPads since so can android manufacturers for example the s5 hasn't seen any love since being put on 5.0 the most buggiest software not bothering to update to 5.1,1 instead focusing on newer handsets they are only just gonna ignore in a years time anyway

How cute, what are you 12? most buggiest? bag out? lmao. Check your facts kid, iOS 8 crashed more than 5.0 it's been proven over and over. I never said carriers made any software lol. Carriers have to approve all software before it goes through with Android. I'm sure apple avoided this somehow or it would take 3 months to get certified like Android does. Has nothing to do with quality of software or anything. ughh why am I explaining this to a kid...

you must be forgetting 5.0 bricked nexus 7 tablets and caused major memory leak and crashing huh? Or do you only choose to remember what suites you? It seems I'm wasting my time talking to a 12 year old no you know what 12 year olds act more mature than you do.

I can tell your a google sheep so no matter what I say you will deny it and attack Apple because that's all fandroids do on the Internet and Watch porn its fact more android users watch porn than iOS users Anyway regarding the update situation Apple controls its software Google writes software than manufacturers modify it only then to have carriers modify it so when major security exploits like stage fright come along you have issues getting updates in fact there is still hundreds of thousands of vulnerable android phones out there thanks to fragmentation

Lol read post 2 and 25. Stop acting like supporting a family of 3 is just as easy and impressive as supporting a family of a 1000. It's what you isheep do best, spin things in favor of Apple.

If they pull this off, I'll never buy another manufacturer again. But how will they integrate Google Now on Tap into Marshmallow since they don't use the traditional home button.

They have to give Samsung time to update their TouchWiz crapware to keep their Galaxies crawling and stuttering along. lol

So what happens to S5? Steups. I really need to switch to Apple yes. All devices are updated same time and not months after a newer version

Yes, Apple also makes all ther older phones slower, so please do They add nothing new but slow down older phone, you need to have an OS update with Apple just to get a music app update. I.e. Google updates services and apps on there own, if thing are working without problems on a Samsung phone there is no need for an OS update

They made it slower so the sheep will have no choice but buy a new one.

You get more updates in a year with Android than you do on iOS. In fact, you will probably get more updates on an Android phone lifespan than an iOS devices lifespan. I switch phones like every 6 months and I never seen an IOS update once because they don't update until 6 months after my phone is so,d on Craigslist. With all my Android devices,1, 2 , or 3 updates before its sold usually.

They may be updated at the same time but now my 5s is unusable. Can't save contacts, lag every second, unread counter badges just display as a big green badge with no indicator in it, massive lag and fps drop when i pull up the air menu or what ever it's called. It's like last years 8 but not as bad. At least this time i can text .

And no support for the 2 year old Note 3. Sigh. Go for the Sony way of updates, Samsung.

If the update is released today, the phones won't see it until mid 2016 anyways.

Just wish Samsung were so honest on these Updates but it Takes ages for them to become available, that is Why i just wish Nokia were in the Android Smartphone Market as they always offer Reliable Updates

If Nokia will rely on a custom skin and will release more than just few devices on the go - don't even count on it. I mean these aren't the days of Symbian anymore - it's Android - if it isn't stock and not bloated with useless crap, then expect waiting for years for OEM develop a major update, lmao. *runs away with popcorn*
