Just a few days ago, we passed along some images of the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2. Today, the tablet has been officially introduced by Samsung. With the Active name attached to the slate, you can expect the device to survive "excessive pressure, temperatures, environments, vibration and drops." The Galaxy Tab Active 2 is certified to meet military specifications. And with an IP certification rating of IP68, the tablet can be submerged in up to nearly 5-feet of water for up to 30-minutes and escape unscathed. The display will even work with wet fingers.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 features an 8-inch display carrying an 800 x 1280 resolution (WXGA). Powering the slate is the Exynos 7870 chipset, which features an octa-core CPU and the Mali-T830 GPU. 3GB of RAM is inside along with 16GB of expandable storage. A 256GB capacity microSD slot is on board. An 8MP camera adorns the back of the tablet, with a 5MP snapper in front. A 4,450mAh battery is included, and this cell is removable.

Android Nougat is pre-installed on the device, which comes with security feature Knox 2.8 out of the box. The tablet can be unlocked using the fingerprint scanner, or the face recognition system that is offered with the slab. The S Pen that comes with the tablet is also IP68 certified so that it can be used in the rain, or survive an accidental drop into the sink.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 will launch some time this month in certain markets. Pricing is unknown.
