Report: Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus to outsell the Galaxy S8
by Alan Friedman / Feb 06, 2017, 12:40 AM
Samsung hasn't confirmed that there will be a Galaxy S8 Plus model. But since the Galaxy S8 is believed to have an edge-to-edge display, there is no reason to have a Galaxy S8 edge model. Instead, there has been talk about a Galaxy S8 Plus with a larger 6.2-inch dual-curved edge screen (the Galaxy S8 will feature a 5.7-inch display). In fact, the difference in screen size could be the only difference between the two versions of Samsung's next flagship phone.
If Samsung follows the game plan it used successfully with the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, it will produce more Galaxy S8 Plus units than Galaxy S8 handsets keeping that 7:3 sales ratio in mind.
We expect to see a 60-second video of the Samsung Galaxy S8 displayed at MWC later this month, with an official unveiling taking place on March 29th.
- Display 5.8" 1440 x 2960 pixels
- Camera 12 MP / 8 MP front
- Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, Octa-core, 2350 MHz
- Storage 64 GB + microSDXC
- Battery 3000 mAh(30h talk time)

An FPS at the back should force people use iris scanner more and its a good thing. Anyway people are used to heart rate monitor adjacent to the camera lens. Shouldn’t be much issues. The disappointment is, they(may have) failed to incorporate the fingerprint under the display even though the availability of such a tech is already out in news. iPhone 8 will come with one such and again Samsung will follow up with S9. See how they let themselves down in the fight for supremacy against Apple. 1. When S3 sold in millions, they had their chance to follow up with a premium build but goofed up with plastic boring designs for S4 and then S5, by 2014 sales plummeted. 2. Finally came up with premium design for S6 but goofed up with puny battery and no microsd 3. In 2016, they set the things right with S7Edge, but halfway through goofed up with the Note7 issues and considerable hurt the brand. 4. S8 will sell in great numbers but doesn’t seem to have that standout feature to blow away iPhones. In contrast iPhone 8 will perfect the curved design with a better wireless charging tech and embedded FPS under display. Looks like a repeat story of how Apple popularized touch FPS, 3D touch, dual lens etc even though they were not the first to do any of these.

Do they have hoverboards in October 2017?

FPS under screen doesn't exist (yet).. the tech is here, but still need more research and various testing to make sure it's ready for consumer level product.. just like 5meters wireless charging.. and I'm sure iPhone7s won't have those two.. all we have right now is under glass FPS..

Have you actually used an iris scanner? I did with the N7 - it sucked. It forces you to hold your phone to your face, line it up just right.. and wait. No thanks!

DOA!! lol they f**ked up bad with the finger print reader. I can't believe they would go that route. People don't want a curve edge display either. Stop pushing gimmicks on people. The Xiaomi Mi mix, edge to edge display is a gorgeous phone. No need for useless curves. Just copy them, figure out a way to get front facing speakers, huge battery and great camera, and you will have a winner. I will bet anything the sale numbers will be nowhere close to what they are hoping. I seriously hope Google brings back the Nexus line and copy Xiaomi. The Pixel was such a let down. My Nexus 6p is still king Android.

I agree with most of your points. But "People don't want a curve edge display either."? We need some statistics regarding that.

Then explain why the S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and the S7 Edge outsells their flat counterparts? The Note 7 was off to a fast start too. If no one wanted the edge screen then why are others doing it too? Dude, you're just stupid!

Will they ever learn? The only reason the S7 Edge outsold the the flat screen version was that it had a bigger screen and a larger battery. They say Samsung listen to the customers when making design decisions but it seems they do not use common sense. I have never used the edge feature on my S7 edge, if anything it is a pain. If they had made a flat screen version with a 5.5 inch screen and larger battery I would have purchased that over the edge. Even though the edge is one of the best looking phones ever, I have to hide it in a full flip case as I am frightened of damaging it. Looks like again they are pushing the edge for the S8. Samsung if you need any design tips just ask lol

There are lots of people who like how the edge model looks vs the flat model. I am one of those. IThe flat S6, just looks like the S4/S5 with a metal case vs plastic. That's all. The edge is new, its different, its bold, it looks cool. If you don't like the edge model, then just don't like it. You have a right to not like it. But the reasons you don't are not shared by all of us. Sales numbers say you're wrong. I don't use the edge features either. They are useful, but for me at redundant in that I like doing these a different way. Even when I had my S6 Edge and S6 Edge Plus, U still didn't use the edge features. I also still perfect the original S6 edge over the S7 edge. Samsung added a feature to it, but they didn't have too. Many people I see with the edge model do like and use the edge features. Just because I didn't find it useful doesn't make it a bad idea. You are just criticizing for no really good reason. The features can be turned off. It doesn't change the most useful part of the edge screen...Aesthetics!

People getting work up over finger print scanner. Wait till there's more proof. Samsung not going to screw its customer base. They know what people want. This is a test and with the disapproval this won't be the final design.
