Report: More iOS than Android devices failed for the first time during the second quarter
Millions of smartphones that went through diagnostic testing in the second quarter are the basis for Blancco Technology Group's State of Mobile Device Performance and Health report, which was released today. The big headline here is that performance failures were spotted on 58% of iOS devices in the period. That is double the amount spotted in the first quarter. During the same time period, 35% of Android devices had a performance failure which means that for the first time in this history of the report, more iOS devices failed than Android devices.

The Apple iPhone 6 was the most failure prone of the iOS devices with 29% of them having issues. Next was the Apple iPhone 6s with a 23% failure rate. 14% of Apple iPhone 6s Plus units failed. On the Android side, among manufacturers Samsung led the way with 26% of Android failures discovered on a handset manufactured by the Korean company. Tied for second were two Chinese phone builders, Lenovo and LeTV. Motorola was third with 11%. The most failure prone Android handset was the Le 1S with a 10% rate. The Le 1S Eco was next with 7%. The following three models were from Lenovo as the Vibe K5 Plus (6%), Vibe P1m (4%) and the K3 Note (4%) rounded out the top five. Note that these are all low-end models.

65% of the iOS devices that experienced a problem in the second quarter had a problem with apps that crashed. 11% had Wi-Fi issues, 4% had a problem using a headset, 4% had an issue with mobile data and 2% had a bad receiver. Android users' leading issues were with the camera and with battery charging (10% each). The touchscreen was named in 7% of failures, while 5% were attributed to the microphone and the speakers.

According to the report, apps crashed on 50% of iOS devices that went through the diagnostic test in the second quarter, compared to 23% of Android devices. Snapchat was the app that crashed on the most iOS devices during the second quarter (17%), followed by Instagram (9%). 12% of Android devices experienced a crash using Google Play Services, which was the top app on the Android 'crash' list. Google Contacts sync, the Address Book, Photos and TouchWiz home all failed on 5% of the tested Android devices. In contrast to the iOS list, which was full of social media apps, not one of the latter appeared on the Android list of apps that failed.

You do realize Samsung had the same percentage or did you not read the article before going on the attack?

Keep in mind that Samsung sells low end as well as mid rangers, compared to Apple who theoretically only sells premium and most advanced smartphones;)

Keep in mind that you're making up excuses.

Keep tap dancing. Apple led the way, Samsung did NOT have the same percentage of failed devices. You're the one who is not only making up excuses, you're making up facts to support erroneous excuses. Not that any of this matters, so long as the manufacturers did the right thing and fixed/replaced the devices, which I'm sure both Apple and Samsung did. But it's funny to watch you flail for a rationalization.

It's only 9.1% of Samsung phones that go wrong

Aka, you're bumburned because Samsung had about the same rate of device failure as Apple did and you're deflecting from the truth, as usual.

Well Keep in mind i dont like Samsung personally. This news numbers seem to fit with what i experience in store where i work. nearly 3 out of 10 Samsung or apple device sold come back with issue in less than 1 years. all others OEM are under 1 out of 10 sold. Samsung and Apple need to stop cutting corner to make more profit and start making real quality device. Sure Apple use very good SOC and Samsung use amazing design but for me durability and stability is more important.

Maybe because all the other OEMs combined don't sell more than 10 units combined? I mean come on man, Apple and Samsung will definitely have more units returned since they outsell everyone else, but we aren't that blind to what happen to other OEMs. HTC haven't been known for their top notch build quality in the past few years, nor is LG

I bet this does not include the screen problem I read about with the iPhone 6 and 6+. I think it's called screen death

Actually...I think the term they used was 'screen disease' as it eventually shows up like any other hereditary disease.

Keeps in mine that even ifyou do the numbers and remove all the broken ones, Samsung will still have more phones in peoples hands. We already saw the Galaxy S6 as having a 7% failure rate. Even with being made of breakable materials. Yet the iPhone model...just one single models suffer a 29% failure rate? Who's making excuses? But the facts - The only 7% of 30M+ sold vs Apple with the iPhone 6 @29%. Are you trying the sidestep the fact this article is about Apple again? Face it bruh! You can talk about drop tests, speed test, whatever tests where you all are so gungho on supporting Apple when you win, but when you are losing, you try to hide the facts with your BS. The iPhone is basically the greatest most expensive piece of failure ridden hardware and software. iOS according to forbes in all its combined crash rates for every version, exceed the combined crash rates for all combined versions of Android. iPhones have caught on fire for whatever reason, more than any single brand of phone...PERIOD. Say whatever you like, we over here will always slap you with the true. You can consider it fanboyism all you want. Apple sells only 200M phones. If 29% of them are failures from one model, that means almost a 3rd of them were garbage. THAT'S ONE THIRD. While even though Samsung was 26%, its worse model is only 7% and its a flagship. Mxy you are simply here to start flame wars and most of the times, you lose. Whats the point. Just enjoy what you like and dont make unreasonable, and checkable BS trolling posts.

aslo another article state andriod had most of its failure rates due to anti-virus and cleaning software installed. That ignorants on the user part. if they didn't exist it would have been a much lower number.

Because I don't type troll post so you can read them. Because you don't understand facts, and because you have no argument you pathetic troll. I can admit, Android is not perfect. Samsung devices are not perfect, Google is not perfect, man is nkt perfect. Apple fans have call the iPhone and iOS perfect lots of times, when it simply ist true. How can it be. Rhe man who made them wasnt perfect either. Tech is wonderful when it worms, and a pain when it doesn't for all.of us. So why make false claims just to convince us of your bad choice qhich you think is a good one. It's your choose, deal.with the good and bad becsuse bkth sides had to deal with it. The worse Android firmware werw the first 3 major releases. Since 4.x it has been very good. Apple has been terrible its last 3 fir.ware releases. 7,8 and 9 have been terrible. As you ca see in on my photo, there is a 4 and 4S, and my iPad Pro. The 4 is party, the 4S is laggy and the iPad Pro is just boring. I made a.mistake buying it. Won't again! Hopefully it doesn't prematurely fail. If it does Apple will replace it, or im doing a small an grab. Or maybe just smash all I can.

But it's true...failure rate of Apple should be way lower considering the average price it charges and the perfection it touts

They should have less problems becsuse tbey make their kwn hardware and their own software. Facts show they suck at both. FORBES states that all iOS versions combine crash mkre apps than all versions of Android combine. One iPhone model has the highest failure rate than any single model of a phone from any pen has had since making phones since the 80s. When I compared the iPhone sales to McDonald's hamburgers, I was mostlybteasing. I had nomidea on what magnitude it was actually truthful. Because no one would ever argue tgat even though McD's sells thr most buyers, tbey certai my are not the best and the iPhone is the.same.

And the Note 7 shouldn't be hampered by glassgate.
