Opera Mini for Android updated, now includes category bar on top
The popular third-party Opera Mini browser has updated its Android app, adding some new features. One change included with the update makes it easier for users to download content. If you are planning on a download so large that it will take a huge bite out of your monthly data allowance, you can go to Opera's Download settings menu. Once there, the browser can be set to hold off on any scheduled downloads until you are within range of a Wi-Fi signal.

In addition, Opera Mini will now allow you to decide how many files are to be downloaded at the same time. Other options you have include deciding whether or not to be notified when each download starts, and when it ends. You can pick how many files the browser can download together at the same time, and even select the destination for each file downloaded.

Another big change is the inclusion of a category bar on the top of the browser, above the address bar. It includes different categories of content that you can choose from, including Web, Images, Shopping, Video and News.

If you already have Opera Mini installed on your Android phone, go to the Google Play Store and check My apps and games for the update. Or, you can click on the sourcelink to install the browser, update and all, on your phone. You can put away your wallet; Opera Mini is a free download.

It's one of the best data compressing browser there is. I'm using it as I'm typing here... The new bar does add some cool elements to the browser. But the ads are killing the user experience. First thing I open the app and loads a site, it leads me to an ad that I have no interest in. I despise that...i have to kill the page and load it again.

If you know how to block ads on desktop opera, you can use the same adblock method, using 'urlfilter'... IF not, you will have to use the AdBlock plus addon, that is not so reliable... :) https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=adblock+for+opera+mobile

I have been using Opera for years. I love the offline reading. It's the best in terms of compressing webpages, saving your data. I love that the main bar is on the bottom of the page, making it easier to use with my fingers. When it finally got out of beta, it has become very stable and I have not experienced a single crash. Not sure what the difference is between Opera and Opera Mini is.
