OnePlus 6 to feature Pixel 2 and iPhone X-rivaling camera

OnePlus 6 to feature Pixel 2 and iPhone X-rivaling camera
The latest OnePlus 6 teaser hints at a camera that will take on some of the best camera mobile offerings out there. OnePlus is currently set to unveil the OnePlus 6 in just five days’ time, with the smartphone expected to boast a number of high-end specs, among which will be a new dual-camera setup. Now, thanks to the brand’s latest teaser, it appears the company is certainly confident in its new smartphone’s photography capabilities.

The teaser in question challenges Twitter users to match four pictures to the respective devices, the options being Google’s Pixel 2, Samsung’s Galaxy S9, Apple’s iPhone X and, of course, OnePlus’s own OnePlus 6. These are obviously not just random selections, they are regarded by many as some of the best smartphone cameras around, suggesting the OnePlus 6 will give them a run for their money. Historically, OnePlus’ cameras haven’t been regarded as the best on the market, so this year it appears OnePlus is looking to change this. After all, recent rumors claimed the smartphone’s higher price tag would be justified by a significantly improved camera.

The upcoming smartphone is currently expected to include a main 20-megapixel sensor that will boast a f/1.7 aperture. In addition, taking on both Apple and Samsung, this is said to be coupled with a secondary 16-megapixel camera. It’s currently unclear what kind of sensor it will be, but most rumors point towards a telephoto lens.

Aside from an improved camera, the OnePlus 6 will ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 on the inside along with the choice of either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Furthermore, the former RAM variant is said to be available with both 64GB and 128GB of storage, while the latter option will be coupled with a considerable 256GB of internal storage. Also, Android 8.1 Oreo will ship straight out of the box, although the Android P beta will also be available to users. On a final release and price note, the device is currently expected to go on sale by the end of May, with pricing starting at around $555.

Rigged blind camera comparison test.

Not rigged but no challenging shots except one where the high contrast sky was kept out of the iPhone shot to help it balance better.

Purple sky is so iPhone-ish. So I believe what OP says. But I doubt it has 20 + 16 because the cpu allows up to 32MP rear and 32MP front.

If this is true then OnePlus has done the impossible! Getting a flagship phone for $555 with a camera on par with the pixel 2 is an impressive achievement.

The pixel 2 has the same sensor as the Moto G5 Plus so it's not really a cost thing

Of course it is cheaper. No HDR screen, no QHD or 4K, no waterproofing, no slot sd, no stereo speakers.

It will be waterproof but I'm not sure about the rest.

Who needs a 4K screen on such a small device as a phone, even if it is 6.4 inch phone? If it's done right, with OLED screen, QHD/QHD+ is more than enough. 4K screen will only help in draining battery fast

The tweet specifically mentions the Galaxy S9, iPhone X and Pixel 2, so why leave out only the Galaxy S9? If you're trying to seem unbiased, then these kind of things are just really weird. Regardless, i'm going to be VERY impressed if Oneplus is actually able to create a camera experience as good as the phones mentioned above, at a lower price point, but it just seems so incredibly good that i just can't believe it before i see it.

I chose to leave out one device from the title as the alternate version with all three devices seemed too clunky. Also, the iPhone X was mentioned in order to represent iOS users and the choice of Pixel 2 over Galaxy S9 was simply what sounded best to me in the title.

Alright, thanks for explaining your thought process. It still seems a little weird to me personally to not just include it, but i do see your point of view.

If it doesn't have OIS then forget about being competitive with anything.

That's a bold claim. Let's just wait for the reviews. It might be a marketing scheme only.

Remember they hyped up the previous two phones quite a bit with regards to the camera and look how that turned out. The camera on the OP5 and OPT5 is s**t, OPT6 won't be much better.

Has to have OIS in both cameras.
