Nokia 9 rumored to be the first to feature “Nokia OZO Audio” technology
The first three Nokia-branded Android smartphones announced by HMD this year have to make their global debut. Aside from the Nokia 6 that's now available for purchase in China, the other two Nokia phones, 3 and 5 will hit the shelves in April/June.

Two new high-end Nokia-branded smartphones are supposed to be unveiled in the coming months, as HMD plans to launch 6 or 7 handsets this year.

HMD's top-of-the-line Nokia-branded smartphone, the unannounced Nokia 9 is expected to come equipped with one of the most powerful chipsets, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. A new tip coming from an unverified source claims this will be the first smartphone to feature Nokia OZO Audio enhancements.

Nokia OZO Audio offers 3D audio experience optimized for headphones and spatial audio playback systems. It features low latency 3D audio playback for VR devices supporting head tracking, as well as high-quality stereo playback for devices without OZO Audio playback support.

According to Nokia, the “audio focus technology enables accentuating sounds in one direction while reducing ambient sounds and background noise.” Nokia OZO Audio technology will also allow 3D audio capture with 4 or more microphones (when available on the smartphone).

Smartphones that come with just three microphones will also be able to capture spatial 360 audio, while those with two mics will offer spatial audio capture.

Besides the new Nokia OZO Audio technology, the upcoming Nokia 9 is rumored to pack 6GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB internal memory. Furthermore, the smartphone is said to boast a 22-megapixel dual-lens Zeiss camera and a secondary 12-megapixel shooter in the front.

HMD might consider the addition of an iris scanner, along with fingerprint reader. The flagship will sport a 5.5-inch Quad HD OLED display and a decent 3,800 mAh battery. Nokia 9 will feature IP68 certification and should run Android 7.1 Nougat right out of the box.

yup, I am actually more looking forward to this than I was to s8., I think that is because we already know what to expect from Samsung, just like how we already expect something from Apple, but Nokia is a comeback, maybe they will try to do something new here

I can't wait for Nokia's new flagship! I really need a new phone, but I'm not going to buy something else before the announcement of this beast. Hurry, Nokia!

it's funny to see that you're not whining about FM radio since this isn't samsung lol

I'm sure Nokia will include FM radio, they aren't like Apple or Samsung. I think all their Lumias had FM radio or it could be enabled by software.

Me too. Samsung is just like a sheep copying everything. They used to copy Nokia in including all the hardware. After Apple in removing all the hardware. So don't worry, as HMD boss said, Nokia will be the same strong old but in better ! You can be sure that they will include all the hardware like FM Radio, HAAC mic (BOSS and KING of the audio recording, my old Symbian phone still outperforms many new Samsung sh!t), a PureView like camera, solid and resistant phone, and all the other goodies !

If the information in this article is true, then this phone sounds fantastic on paper. Hopefully it looks decent and lives up to the hype. I would imagine, however, that it will cost north of $700.

OZO audio eh? Good to know they're POSSIBLY going all-out with their premium smartphone, not just waiting until its next iteration. :)

This will surely slide it's way at the top of flagship to purchase for 2017 list! I wonder with this audio technology will the Nokia 9 come with a Hi-Fi DAC. If so, I'm there!

Will keep an eye on this. Both eyes, actually. Seems like my next purchase will be either this or the Mi MIX 2, to be released in Q4.
