"Nokia 1100" handset being tested for 2016; phone carries quad-core MediaTek chip, Android 5.0

54

The Nokia 1100 is an old entry-level phone from 2003. Some one at Nokia thought it might be funny to use the model number on a new Android model being tested. Under the terms of its deal with Microsoft, Nokia cannot offer a new smartphone until the fourth quarter of 2016. But a benchmark test was already conducted on a Nokia smartphone running Android 5.0. Under the hood is a quad-core 1.3GHz MediaTek MT-6582 CPU.

Of course, if the phone is not going to be released for more than a year, any specs that show up now on a benchmark test will probably not be on the final version of the phone. Whatever the handset is called, the fact that Nokia is seemingly serious about returning to the smartphone market with a new Android powered phone is sure to make many happy. After all, there were many who chided Nokia for making the wrong decision all those years ago when it decided to go with Microsoft's Windows Phone in February 2011. At the time, even Eric Schmidt said that Google's door would always be open to Nokia if it wanted to switch to Android.

The MT6582 supports a 720 x 1280 resolution display, an 8MP image signal-processor, 1080p Full HD video recording and playback at 30fps. Again, that's for now. Things are bound to be different when Nokia takes the wraps off the phone that heralds its return to the smartphone market.
