Nexus 7 yanked out of Google's online store

Nexus 7 yanked out of Google's online store
The Nexus 7 is no longer available from the Google Store. The stock Android slate recently ran into some major trouble when both the OG and second-generation model received the update to Android 5.0. Some of those who tried to update the slate found themselves with an expensive paperweight after their Nexus 7 was bricked during the updating proicess.

The OG Nexus 7 has gone through 10 upgrade cycles after starting life with Android 4.1 and recently receiving Android 5.1. The original model featured a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 for a pixel density of 216ppi. A quad-core 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 CPU is under the hood with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of native storage inside. There is one camera on the unit, a 1.2MP front-facing snapper. A  4325mAh battery keeps the lights on.

The second-gen Nexus 7 also comes with a 7-inch screen, but on this model the resolution is an improved 1920 x 1200. The pixel density works out to a  superior 323ppi (compared to the OG model). A quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro drives the tablet, which has an Adreno 320 GPU handling graphics. 2GB of RAM is inside along with 16/32MB of non-expandable memory. This unit offers a 5MP camera on back and a 1.2MP shooter up front. A 3950mAh battery powers the tablet.

If you've been hoping to purchase a Nexus 7 tablet, your best bet is to check out eBay or Amazon as you might be lucky enough to find some leftover inventory available.

Google is really incompetent when it comes to managing their inventory. There's still a market for the lower cost Nexus devices all lollipop issues aside.

Well, at least they're more competent than their competition.

Sell it, brother! And keep working in that lollipop FUD. At this rate, in your lifetime you might convince one person. Yourself.

Perhaps because it's right at 2 years old. Most other companies aren't still selling 2 year old models either.

Apple's still selling 3 year old models though. Here in the Philippines, I see a lot of Samsung Tabletst that have like 2012 specs.

? 3 year old models have been discontinued for awhile. They sell refurbs of the old ones but not brand new. You can still buy xoom tablets in the US if you look hard enough.

Sorry, I live in the Philippines where you can see second hand tablets that costs more than the actual price WTF. Doing a poll for the fight of Manny and Mayweather. I'll start with the first vote.

You're biased, your whole country is. Honestly, don't you have like a dedicated holiday for Pacquao there? But, Manny is likeable. Mayweather is an ass. I second your vote.

It's being supportive. Manny is a great boxer and that's why we support him. Mayweather is just a butthurt ass who posts pictures of his riches ad luxuries as a response to the haters which just shows how butthurt he is. Also: On Manny's side Sylvester Stallone Liam Neeson Keanu Reeves Mark Wahlberg Mike Tyson and a lot more While on Mayweather's side Justin Bieber

Are you buying them through Apple or through a retailer. You can still buy Nexus 7s through retailers, but not through Google's site. Just like you can't buy the iPad 4 or original iPad Air (both released around the time of the Nexus 7 2013) anymore through Apple's site, but you can through retailers. All of those retailers still have stock available and will sell them until they're gone, but the actual OEMs usually stop selling them after a couple years or after a newer model replaces them.

Yeah. But not to put down Philippines my country, most of the old gadgets that don't sell much gets dumped on Philippines though. They're like subsidy.

Apple's been selling 2 year old hardware in 2015 flagship models. Whats the difference?

32. gaming64 unregistered

It sells more than other phones.

Really, so where on Apple's site are they selling an iPad 4 or an original iPad Air. Both were from around 2013 just like this Nexus. But they're not listed for sale through Apple. So they must have the same problem then. After a couple years, companies stop selling older models in favor of newer ones, it's not rocket science.

Kinda strange, but I thought the N7 was gone months ago. They had limited stock months before the N9 as well. All that is left is refurb stuff.

I was amazed how smooth the V2 Nexus 7 was after the 5.1 upgrade. I'm still impressed with this tablet.

Already cutting off support for it to as I said Google kill it of by updating it to lollipop and this means lollipop uses even more resources then previous ones. Google should have kill the line of nexus 7 way before that like MS with Windows RT plus i really don't know why a phone with quad core CPU and 2 gigs of ram can't run lollipop!!!!!

Interesting, because I got the 5.1 update for both N7s in our household 2 days ago, so where do you get that they've cutting off support for it?

Considering that a bricked Nexus can be flashed back to a previous factory image, it's not a paperweight. No matter what happens, you can always go back to the previous software version.

Yeah, but it makes great headlines for people who have no clue - aka Phonearena...

While I agree mostly, a lot of ppl get stuck on erasing data when unlocking, and at that point are screwed. Still, I think the issue is all in software, not hardware. The update process of OTA's is doing it in, even I had issues. But I have no issues using TWRP and a zip update rom.
