Rumored Motorola Odin flagship could be the Moto Z4 with Snapdragon 8150 and support for 5G Moto Mods

According to an unnamed source that spoke with XDA, Motorola is working on a new flagship phone code named the Motorola Odin. The device will be powered by the next generation Snapdragon 8150 Mobile Platform, and the basic model is said to include 4GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. The phone is rumored to be pre-installed with Android 9 Pie and will reportedly support Motorola's modular Moto Mods, including the 5G Moto Mod accessory. We should see the Snapdragon X50 modem chip onboard the device, which would help the handset work with 5G connectivity.

The Snapdragon 8150 Mobile Platform is going to be produced using the 7nm process, and it will include a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for AI use. While XDA's source says that Motorola is working on an in-display fingerprint scanner, it isn't known whether it will be used on the Odin, which actually could be the Moto Z4. And while this handset is said to be in development for North America, it could end up as a Verizon exclusive in the U.S.

When Motorola launched the Moto Z line in 2016, the company said that it was committed to "three generations" of Moto Z models with Moto Mod support. The Odin, if indeed it is the code name for the Moto Z4, would be the fourth generation of Moto Z handsets supporting Moto Mods. This year, Motorola introduced the Moto Z3 with a 5G Moto Mod that will allow the phone to run over Verizon's mobile 5G network once it is turned on next year. Recently, Verizon successfully tested its first 5G data transmission using the Moto Z3.
