Mid-ranger HTC X10 reportedly getting unveiled next month

Out of China this morning comes news about HTC's next mid-range handset. According to this report, the HTC One X9 will be replaced in January with the HTC X10. Expect a 5.5-inch display, carrying a 1080 x 1920 resolution. The MediaTek Helio P10 SoC will be driving the phone. This features a true octa-core 2GHz CPU (Cortex-A53 cores) along with the Mali-T860 GPU clocked at 700MHz.

Other parts of the rumor include 3GB of RAM, and a 13MP rear-facing camera with OIS. According to the buzz around the water cooler, the handset will be priced at the equivalent of $288 USD. Most of these specs are in line with the HTC One X9, which launched on New Year's Day this year.

What could they possibly gain by saving 10$ or so using Mediatek chipsets. This will only hurt their sales numbers. It would have been a great device with a SD 653.

someone in management is trying to sink price of HTC, so someone else could buy it...it is only reasonable explanation. they have learned from Elop, and now doing the same.

Helio P10, eh? I don't think its a "TRUE" Octa-Core... It has 2 Cortex-A53 clusters; one at 2.0Ghz and the other at a low 1.2Ghz... The process die is kinda huge at 28nnm and hence... I won't be surprised if this phone show signs of over-heating during heavy gaming when all 8 cores are humming along at their full potential... The RAM is a single-channel DDR3 at 7.2 GB/s... With these high clocked cores, RAM should've been a Dual Channel one... Helio P20 would've been an ideal choice cause its built on 16 N.M architecture and hence is clocked higher and the RAM is Dual Channel DDR4 @ 12.8 GB/s... This phone, in all honestly, is passable...

"8 cores are humming along at their full potential" no it wont, it's s̶h̶i̶t̶t̶y̶ GPU will take care of heavy gaming (and still overheating)

No, based on what I have read on other sites, the Helio P10 is a true octa-core. all the cores are running at 2.0 GHz whether LP or HP.

Another dumb release by HTC. Leftover components are plentiful for HTC I suppose

If it has dual front facing speakers and back lit keys, I might consider it. Would prefer an SD processor though.
