Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition lands in Europe, you'll need an invite to get one

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition was launched in China back in late May, but now Canonical - the company that makes the Ubuntu operating system - and Meizu will soon launch the smartphone in Europe as well. Sales debut tomorrow, on June 25th, but there's a major caveat to take into consideration.

Unfortunately for hardcore Ubuntu fans, it looks like the smartphone will only be available to customers who manage to get their hands on an invite, which can be earned by heading over tomorrow to the source link below and completing what's called an "origami wall". At the moment, it's unclear how many invites will be handed out each day. Neither Canonical nor Meizu mentioned if the invite-based model will be eventually dropped, nor did the two companies mention any plans to launch the smartphone in the United States.

Much like the first two Ubuntu smartphones, the Aquaris E4.5 and the Aquaris E5, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is a modified version of a smartphone that was initially launched with Android on board, the original Meizu MX4

The specs include a 5.36-inch display with a resolution of 1152 by 1920 pixels at a PPI of 418, a MediaTek MT6595 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of non-expandable internal memory, and a 3100mAh battery. In the camera department, the Meizu MX5 Ubuntu Edition comes with a 20.7MP primary camera on the back and a 2MP secondary shooter on the front. In Europe, the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition will be priced at 299 Euro, which translates to about $335 at the current international currency conversion rates.
