Huawei P20 Lite renders depict an iPhone X-esque notch

Huawei already invited us to a March 27th event, where it is expected to unveil its next flagship - the P20 - and its P20 Plus and P20 Lite sidekicks, as has become its habit in the last few years. What piqued our interest in the first leaked renders and images of the devices, is that one of them, dubbed to be a prototype, showed a very iPhone X-esque cutout at the top bezel, and a vertical dual camera set on the back, again resembling Apple's finest handset for the season.

Well, a very credible leakster with a proven track record, has now created CAD-based image renders of what he claims to be that same P20 Lite, and, lo and behold, it does sport a notch and vertical camera. Make of this what you will, but the alleged P20 Lite cutout sits in the middle between the tiny one on the Essential Phone, that goes around the front camera only, and the wider notch of the X, which has to house all the TrueDepth camera paraphernalia that allows for Face ID, Animoji, and other 3D face-scanning shenanigans.

The fact that Huawei boasted not long ago that it has developed technology similar to Face ID didn't fly over our heads, and a fraction of this tech may have trickles down to the Lite version as well, which may introduce a 2D face recognition, similar to what Samsung or OnePlus are offering on their phones now.

Well, Huawei has been copying some of iPhone's design language... Won't be suprising to see an iPhone X-esque notch on a P20 this time.

Only if this device were powered by a qualcomm snapdragon 845. It would surely sell well!

People keep saying the "iPhone X" notch when other manufacturers start using a cutout for the cameras. Shouldn't we be referencing the Essential phone since it did it first?

I doubt this, I can't imagine people creating apps that'll support that area. Unless it is a twist on what LG did in the past, where only they support it.

I don't see how this is identical to the iPhone X, when there is a bezel below the screen and the notch is shorter. Besides Apple didn't invent the two vertical cameras configuration. Go home with your demand iPhoneArena.

IPhone X for the average consumer. Not bad.

So an ugly notch AND a thick bezel below... not to mention the entire phone looks like an iClone

I know, why dont you get all of the worst design parts from the iPhone X and copy them. We hate the notch and we hate camera bumps. I don't care what the specs and price are, I won't be buying this. Apple can get away with odd design decisions just because its Apple and it has loyal followers. Huawei doesn't. The only people that will get this will be people wanting a poor mans iPhone X.

And they wonder why they get sued by Apple..Huawei needs to employ better designers tbh.

They copied one of the worst designed phones in history...and somehow managed to slap a fingerprint scanner on it.
