Here's a quick look at LG G6's new UI

LG already confirmed various details about its upcoming G6 flagship smartphone. We know, for example, that the handset sports an unusual 5.7-inch display with 1440 x 2880 pixels, has a new Quad DAC (digital to analog converter) for high quality sound, and will be announced at MWC 2017 on February 26.

In a fresh video teaser, LG today revealed another thing about the G6: the phone will come with a new UI (obviously based on Android 7 Nougat). While the video - embedded above - is very short, we can see that the new interface continues to evolve in the direction set by LG G5's UX 5.0 and LG V20's UX 5.0+. Interestingly, the video reveals that the screen of the G6 has curved corners and the interface fits perfectly to them. We don't know if the interface will be dubbed LG UX 6.0, but we're going to find out later this month.

Although it will be announced on February 26, the LG G6 may not be released in the US before early April. Regardless of when it hits the market, in addition to the features presented above, the new smartphone should offer a water-resistant metal body, a Snapdragon 821 processor, improved rear and front cameras, and a 3200 mAh battery.

All in all, it looks like the G6 has the potential to make us forget about the rather disappointing LG G5.

I think it will have animations as well. For instance, contact picture is top square, bottom square will be contact info. Press call button, bottom square will slide into calling mode, and contact pic will stay on top square...mehh

I don't think that is how it will work, they just made it look like that for the sake of art. The new phone aspect ratios are expected to be 2:1 which means two perfect squares next to each other. So the UI will be divided respecting the midline of the screen. This should also help with multiwindow since both can have an equivalent screen space.

If the screen is 2:1, you can't have 2 perfect squares since the on screen buttons take significant portion of the screen as shown in the video. I guess what they meant was they are using more square aesthetic in the design.

I knew it ... The g6 will be joked by a crappy ui ...

It's not as bad as the iPhone cartoonish UI.

Since we are talking about the appearance of a thing rather than it's performance, what about Samsung's crappy ui?? That interface look like it was designed by Fisher Price. Here's an idea, withhold judgement, the LG G6 is not out yet, neither of us know how the device will perform, the look of an interface isn't something we should be focusing on, it's whether the software is finely tuned to perform exceptionally IF LG optimized it well. Form over Function is the new norm, but the problem is, that's not normal.

I'll take Samsung's Grace UX and awesome theme store over Apple's square box and LG's generic crap any day.

LG also has a theme store to n't knowledge, making your point moot.

You're seriously comparing Samsung's theme engine and store to that of LG's? We all know you hate Samsung, but this comparison is unbelievably stupid.

Kinda missing the point fam'. Plus who brought up a store?

I'll take the performance of my purchase of Electronics over a mindset of having the looks of a software be a factor when making a purchase any day. A phone isn't made to be starred at, nor is a software developed to just glare at, a smartphone was made for more than talking and texting, and software is developed for simple navigation through the ui. But that's not seen unfortunately, we're too busy murmuring about the shape of an icon.

I have a GS7 and have no problem talking, texting or doing anything else. I have a Pixel theme from the them store on my GS7 and it looks and works marvelous. You guys sound really ignorant.

You mistook my comment, first off, I never said there was a problem with talking or texting or doing anything else, I SAID "a smartphone was made for more than talking and texting, and software is developed for simple navigation through the ui." Secondly, how did "and have no problem talking, texting or doing anything else. I have a Pixel theme from the them store on my GS7 and it looks and works marvelous." tie anywhere to what I was stating?? You sound really ignorant.

You said Samsung has a crappy ui. That is false and a lie. You said it looked like it was designed by Fisher Price. That is also false and a lie. You must have never used a recent GS6 or GS7 with a proper theme. So basically, you don't know what you are talking about.

25. TechGirl90 unregistered

Yes I said Samsung's UI looks like it was designed by Fisher Price, the point I was making is we're shifting our focus on the wrong thing, we should be focusing on the performance of the UI, not the appearance, nice job missing the point I was trying to convey. And maybe you've been living under a rock and forgot that everyone has an opinion including yours which is also an opinion, don't like it? Tough Luck, that's a problem you have to solve within yourself.

I would consider myself a die-hard LG fan since the Optimus G, owning pretty much every one of their flagships till present. But 3200mAH is crap and LG knows that. I would've preferred they kept the original WQHD aspect ratio and made the phone a bit wider to accommodate perhaps 3800mAH or so because I think as loyal as we've been (the few, the proud) we deserve that.
