Initiate calls from the LG Watch Urbane with the new LG Call app

The LG Watch Urbane, one of the best-looking and better-specced Android smartwatches currently around, was recently launched in the Google Store for $349, and the first units are already being wrapping around user wrists. If you've already received your unit, you might want to head over to the Play Store and download LG Call, an app that, as the name suggests, allows users to place voice calls directly from the LG Watch Urbane.

Since the LG Watch Urbane lacks cellular connectivity, the LG Call app will basically act as an intermediary between the smartwatch and the Android smartphone you have it paired with. If you're looking for the ability to place call from your LG smartwatch without going through a smartphone, you'll have to wait for LG to release the LG Watch Urbane LTE.

At the moment, the LG Call app is only compatible with the Watch Urbane. In theory, the app should be able to work its magic with LG's two other smartwatches, the square-shaped LG G Watch, or the rounded LG G Watch R. This move has drawn a lot of criticism on Google Play already, but LG can still correct this slip.

You can download the LG Call app by heading over to this Google Play link.

this is the funny part , Android lovers will troll the apple watch every article , but when every watch coming out in 2015 will cost just as much and copy a much as they can , they'll call it revolutionary. LOL! Apple set the standards , now watch everyone will add the same stuff. maybe in a year you'll get a Digital crown clone as well.

other smartwatches have been able to receive and make calls before the apple watch. So they haven't set any standers for smartwatches lol.

But a week ago, making calls from a watch was stupid. Also, "you do t need a smart watch" was plastered on every AW article. It was also to expensive even for the entry model. Oh, no one want to draw pics or send emojis right? Check out the new android wear update. Lastly, the G watch urbane only exist because of the Apple watch. The felt like they had to put a coat of paint on the G Watch when they saw the Apple watch in September.

Wow, what a troll. First of all Android Wear smart watches cost considerably less for consumers to purchase. That vast Majority of AW smart watches come standard with stainless steel or steel to begin with. Apple has to charge and additional $200 for the steel version. You can buy some AW smart watches at that upgrade price alone. Second, LG Urbane is stainless steel and doesn't have paint. Third, developers can make standalone apps, whereas Apple developers cannot. Therefore 3rd party apps not only run on the iPhone, but require the iPhone. That is why it is sluggish and slow to run 3rd party apps right now. I think you should go back to your camp and try and help Apple to make their product better. Instead of trying to spread lies.

I forgot to mention LG's app is nice, but before you could make calls with Android Wear using your voice.

Yeah. It's Apple doing the copying in the smartwatch (and these days, smartphone) arena. The iWatch looks very much like the original Gear. Nobody wants a digital crown, it's clumsy and inelegant.

Yes, please, don't comment without making a bit of research, most of your comments are way off the mark, because you don't know a thing about Android or other operating systems. Apple Watch has zero innovations apart maybe from the taptic engine, which is not a big deal, and the nice mechanism for removing and snapping the straps back in place. All other big "innovations" that Apple claim, like calling, force touch etc. are just Apple marketing words with no real content.

I doubt the LG Watch & the LG R, have the capability of placing a call, do to the fact that the do not have external speakers..

Well the article says it uses the phone itself, so probably can only execute the call from the watch as it has no speaker and the lte version will do this independently.
