Google Pixel 3 XL smiles for the camera again in two-tone black

After going through unboxing, video previews, and other leak storms of unprecedented strength, the Pixel 3 XL has finally found peace at the other end of the globe, as it just popped up again on someone's desk in Hong Kong.

We kid you not, the phone has appeared in the flesh again with all of its frontal notch glory. We hoped that the leaked chin-y, notch-y designs would be of an early version to no avail, as it's too close to the actual announcement for any changes now.

At this point, what we can reasonably expect is a two-tone coat of paint, a huge notch the could house some sort of 3D face-scanning tech, and a resolution of 1440x2960 pixels and 494ppi that our humble calculations returned to mean a giant 6.7" display.

Further down the specs list are a Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4GB RAM/64GB storage, and a 3430 mAh battery. The camera duties are taken by a 12MP sensor again, it seems, with an 8MP selfie shooter at the front.

Android Pie will be running the show, of course, but the only thing on everyone's mind by now is how will the sole camera perform against the new photography chops of the iPhone XS Max, Note 9, and eventually, the Mate 20 Pro that will be the Pixel's formidable competitors in that all-important department now.

I wanted the pixel 3. but that chin is huge. I thought they would've made it smaller, how come they didn't? the notch can still hold that hardware in it and still have a smaller notch too right? why didn't they do that?

The chin is for stereo speakers.

Have you tried holding an s9 or s9+ with small chin? Do you realize how hard it is to pick apps at the bottom if you don't use swipe gestures? Pixels have front firing speakers so a "huge" chin is very much welcome.

it's a downgrade from Pixel 2 XL man, please don't defend Google on this one. if the 3 XL turned out like this, Google screwed up the design very badly.

Well to be fair , their notch is justified, and I am surprised no other manufacturer bends the screen under the display to eliminate the bottom chin. Even the expensive Androids. BTW even I have no love for the X series.

Every God damn flagship of 2018 has a god damn notch. Is there no escaping this monstrosity??? Oh yeah, Samsung hasn't fallen victim to this trend, Note 9 it is.

If you hate that much a notch, then go for the smaller version.

i can stand the other smaller notches if it means i could get a Pixel. but this one... i can't. that huge notch and thick chin, what a downgrade from Pixel 2 XL. what is Google thinking...

Millions of iPhone users are happy with their notch and it works great. The pixel 3 XL is most likely a great phone, but we all know google has no identity and will rip off the current trend in order to sell phones. Be a baller and buy an iPhone XS Max and a Note 9 together and none of this crap matters anymore that’s what I did and I love them both to pieces.

Is it me or does this phone get uglier every time you see it? The design team of the 3rd generation Pixels should be ashamed of themselves.

I can assure that it is not just you . the design team of pixel 3 xl has pulled off a miracle...a phone that looks uglier each passing day. funny thing is, I think the stb ratio will be lesser than the 2xl if people decide to turn off the notch sine it is so deep (at-least that is what i gathered from the pics). At this point Google has pissed me off more than even Apple. To not do anything meaningful even after an year is one thing but to keep removing stuff and making phone uglier generation after generation is another feat altogether.

It's crazy how we're now hitting tri-camera setup territory, but Pixel is still forging ahead with it's single camera. And with that, it's doing quite an exceptional job with just one.

It is doing so at the cost of versatility. There are situations where you want to zoom in or take a wide angle shot to fit more into the picture, like a landscape. Pixel 2XL , in-spite of have stellar still image, is incapable of doing both.

Exactly. Google keeping the Pixel series with just one camera, while very good, keeps it from having the extra features that the competition is taking advantage of. It will become a detriment to the Pixel line in the long run.

Shawn Michaels would love to give a "sweet chin music" to that chin
