Google is testing quick access buttons for Maps that will quickly take you home or to work

Google makes it easy to navigate to work or home using Google Maps. After registering both addresses, navigating to your place of employment every morning is as easy as saying to Google, "Navigate to work." You'll quickly see how the morning drive time traffic will affect your commute. And at the end of the work day, a simple command of "Navigate to home" will bring you back to your family using the quickest route available.

If telling Google to Navigate to work or home is just too much for you to handle, there is potentially good news coming. Google is testing quick access buttons for Google Maps. There would be a pair of these buttons found right under the search bar; one is labeled Home and the other Work. As you probably figured out now, if you're heading to the office, tap on Work. If you're heading back to the wife and kids, click on Home. It can't be any easier or faster than that.

The quick access buttons have appeared on the beta version of Google Maps that we're running (see the accompanying image at right). When we tap on the search bar, the quick access buttons appear. As we said, this new feature is being tested by Google and frankly, we can't see any reason why it shouldn't pass the test.

How is it different than setting up the "Drive Home" one click widget button ?

You have to go into the Google Maps app to see these options...which is one more click than using the one click widget. First world problems yo.

first, I saw this option a month ago. Second I use faster way to access navigation, by saying "OK, Google. Take me home" Till I get in to the car and start the engine, navigation is already prepared. Easy.

Exactly my thought. Another reason they need to resurrect Google Now.

I think most folks have getting to work, nailed down. The "GO HOME" button from anywhere is helpful on the return trip after using the GPS to get somewhere an not paying attention other than the gps on the way out.
